    Interesting facts:

The NBA is celebrating a record that may never be broken. Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points in a single game March 2, 1962. The New York Times reports the New York Knicks traveled to the Philadelphia Warriors to play in the Hershey Sports Arena in Pennsylvania on that fateful day.

The fact that Chamberlain scored 100 points is incredible enough. Here are some other strange facts about the game.

*The Warriors won 169-147 . Chamberlain needed to score way above his scoring average that night, otherwise the Warriors would have lost the game. If Chamberlain had just an "average" game, the final score would have been in favor of New York 147-119.

*Chamberlain's per-game point average in the 1961-1962 season was 50.4 points. Hardly any NBA players can claim they had a game 50 points above their average.

*Five players scored in double figures for the Warriors. The next-highest total behind Chamberlain was 17 points by Alvin Attles .

*Five players also scored in double figures for New York. Three of them scored above 30 points each, a feat hard to duplicate even with today's vaunted NBA stars. Richie Guerin paced the Knicks with 39 points.

*Chamberlain made 28 of his 32 free throws or 87.5 percent. His normal free throw percentage was 61.3 percent for that season. Had he stayed true to his average, Chamberlain would have only made 20 points that way instead of 28.

*Five Knicks' players had five or more personal fouls. Only one fouled out with six fouls. By contrast, only two Warriors got to five fouls.

*Only 4,124 fans saw the game in person. Most NBA arenas now seat around 18,000 people.

*There was no television footage of the game. Only a radio call exists. You can see Chamberlain in an interview about the game on YouTube .

*Chamberlain made 36 of his 63 field goals or 57.1 percent.

*The very next game, Wilt the Stilt was held to "just" 58 points.

*As of April 2009, there were 60 times an NBA player scored over 60 points in a single game. Chamberlain had 32 of those.

*The Golden State Warriors are playing the Philadelphia 76ers in Philadelphia March 2, 2012, to mark the historic game's anniversary .
