I'm a Nintendo fan boy, so I already have a 3DS and that's all I need right now thank you very much. However, I'm NOT the sort of fan boy that refuses to buy other systems when they have something I want to play on them. For instance one of my favorite series (Ys, I know none of you have ever heard of it) will be releasing a new game on the Vita in a year or so, so I'll be buying the Vita then. And thankfully it will probably be less expensive.

What I find really interesting is that all the Sony fan boys were insisting that the 3DS was bombing bad and would pull Nintendo under. And then the Vita bombed WAY harder. icon_razz.gif So hard in fact that a lot of developers are pulling out of Vita and moving their projects to the 3DS now. Which is fine by me.

I only just recently bought my PSP when Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection came out on it.

How did the Vita bomb? Sales were soft in Japan, but sell-through is impressive given the soft market. Sony has sold close to 1.2mil units worldwide, with over half of those sales happening in Europe and North America. That's far from a bomb.

The developer rumor you cite is just that: a rumor. You're referring to an anonymous source that told a Nikkei reporter, “Major Japanese companies are canceling all projects intended for the Vita and are changing development to the 3DS.”

This isn't true, either. If you can provide me with a list of the developers that have allegedly left the Vita platform, then I can look into it for you. Until then, don't believe everything you read.

OP, the Vita is obviously a better platform than the PSP, but I suggest waiting until there are must-have Vita games (for you). Content drives hardware acquisition, not the other way around.

I wasn't as clear as I should have been (sleepy). I meant to say that it "bombed" more than the 3DS (which didn't bomb at all, despite what the Sony fanboys were saying).

It turns out that what I was quoting was a rumor, you're right, but it hasn't been contradicted. And it also stands to reason that as the Vita did so poorly in Japan in comparison to the 3DS developers WOULD want to move to the 3DS. It's not an unlikely rumor.

I don't know about you but I'd rather play Uncharted / Mortal Kombat / Metal Gear Solid than a 99cent port of Angry Birds the Remix Edition or what have you.

Games made for smartphones etc are great for casual gamers but suffer due to lack of content much like the Nintendo Wii, the novelty wears off quick.

Theres no way that Street Fighter IV for iPhone could compete with StreetFighter X Tekken for the Vita.

There really aren't that many games out for it yet so I have no interest in it. Maybe when FFX comes out for it I'll go ahead and grab one but until then....nope. icon_confused.gif

If you know anything about game development, you'd know how ridiculous it sounds when someone says that developers or publishers are leaving a platform in favor of another. Unless that developer is working on platform exclusives (Mario, Halo, Uncharted, etc.), there would be no reason to walk away from any hardware manufacturers product, especially in the portable space.

If you could, I ask that you provide a list of developers ... shit, just list a couple that have stated they are leaving the Vita in favor of the 3DS. The only way it could be contradicted (to use your words) would be to provide names. Otherwise, that rumor to which you refer is dead.

And initial sales in Japan of 3DS were horrible, too (they were worse in the U.S.). In fact, launch month 3DS sales in Japan were on par with Vita sales. It wasn't until Zelda was released in Japan that 3DS' started to move off the shelves.

Capcom for instance made third party exclusives for the Nintendo GameCube

Never understood the exclusivity deals they would strike up with either of the big three... Then again they were notorious for going back on their word ie-Resident Evil franchise
