Hey guys new to the forum and thinking about going to NYC for a week after graduating college to do some NYC sightseeing, job hunting, networking, and fun times.

So I want to know which bars/clubs in NYC I can go to in order to network around the city, or get to meet really wealthy and connected gay men? I assume upscale bars, but I don't want to pay a membership fee or anything like that. Like those $10,000+ per month exclusive bars.

I just want to go into a bar meet some hot ivy league guys or some nice older gentlemen who would like to be my friend/adviser/mentor in life.

I know of one called the townehouse and will definitely check that one out. Any others out there?

I had never heard of the Townhouse, until you mentioned it here. For such an "upscale, professional, truly elegant" bar, it sure has a shitty website.

I'll stick with the dive bars.

There is a new one attached to the new OUT NYC hotel too in Upper Chelsea (hey did I just coin a new term? Sounds better than Meatpacking district).

You didn't...The meatpacking district is below 14th street on the west side, which is below Chelsea.

"Upper Chelsea" as you call it (the space between Chelsea and Hell's Kitchen) is already been dubbed Clinton Hill or Hellsea.

And just to comment on the OP's actual question, I have no clue.

A good buddy of mine is one of the bartenders at the Cock, and one of the hottest and nicest 20 somethings there is in NYC. He has a great full time job 9-5 in PR, but loves doing the Cock thing. That said, I wouldn't say it's a great place to meet guys! t have never been to the TH, but it sounds pretty dreadful. There are better ways to meet wealthy and successful gay NYer's than at a bar, but it will take more than standing at a bar and looking cute.

Went to The Cock and it was interesting but not the best place to meet people being its dark and kinda seedy... Go to Eastern Bloc or Bedlam if you are near the East Village, in Chelsea there is always Elmo or the Griffin Hotel, if in HK go to Industry or its sister bar Therapy. There are other hidden gems but you have to do your research and explore and experience the City yourself. You just have to find out your crowd and go where your crowd exists.

LaxJock16 is a great source of info on the bar scene. I would just add again that I don't think the bars are a good place to focus on networking with successful professionals.

I agree with you, the gyms and eateries are much better places to network there or sports or other clubs... when I move back I am taking full advantage of the knowledge I have being I lived there last year, but the bar scene is a fun place to have a drink and be around others who are letting the work week off their backs as well as their heavy bags they schlep around everyday.

Not UPSCALE - but one of the best kept secrets in my home town of NYC!

Oh jeez...I went there for like 20 minutes on New Years after I went to Urge which was right next store. Alex did very bad things >_>. I don't think I would go there again lol.

My guess is that Alex could get into fun trouble wherever he goes.

It does look like the Townhouse hasn't updated its site significantly in some years, same pics they've had for a long time.

When I've gone there were limousines lined up outside, and inside you had to avoid the embarrassment of trying to hit on a personal bodyguard by mistake, instead of the real deal.

It does allow the general public in, but there is a dress code, and on busy nights you might have to pass the dreaded NYC Doorman Test, which is horribly humiliating if you fail. I always went in winter and wore a long black topcoat with scarf & dress gloves, but underneath I could get away with a button shirt without jacket. I'm not sure if they'll allow singles in, I was always with someone. Which can change the cruising dynamic considerably.

The decor is residential, like being in furnished sitting rooms, and your individual taste determines whether you find that elegant, or a trifle 1960s dowdy. A cocktail pianist usually performs on a grand, and I actually found the drink prices quite reasonable for Manhattan, about $9 for a martini a few years ago.

I was never in NYC enough in recent years to look into members-only gay clubs.

    ONCE AGAIN!

That is audience participation - a seperate element to the performance.

I know! Looking at the website, they say "Proper dress is a must!", but there are people in their photos with faded jeans. icon_rolleyes.gif

There are a number of networking groups that meet regularly. The one that I am aware of in particular is primarily for men in finance, investment banking and venture capital. The various sports teams are also good networking opportunities, or get involved with one of the cultural institutions that have "Young Associate" groups. Or volunteer with one of the many great causes which have strong support from the gay community. I think these are all better than bars, or even clubs to meet successful guys who are also interesting. But I guess Cash could be right that with the right look you can connect anywhere.

Thank you for this, I am not only interested in cash haha. I am interested in connecting and growing my network. I will not know many people in NYC and would love to have more connections especially in the gay world. Someone who can teach me about finance business etc...Something like an unofficial internship maybe hehe with some fun on the side!

I was actually referring to our esteemed RJ colleague Cash that being cute in a bar could get you all the connections you need. Scroll up to see his comment.

Looking at your profile, you specifically state you are looking for a "wealthy sugar daddy." If you are seriously looking primarily for that, you will have a lot of very big competition in NY from some seriously hot guys.
