As they say, the "jury is out" concerning the question on whether we choose to be gay or not. How we feel is not something we can control. But the question of whether we are born with these feelings very early in life or we find them later is something that depends on the person. I believe some people have these feelings earlier than others. But for most people, I think they don't appear until puberty begins and the hormone testosterone begins to alter the male mind significantly.

My feelings began at the age of 9. I was definitely born this way

Lady GaGa: "Born This Way, hey!"

If she says it, then it must be true!

    It's hereditary.

If you're gay, that means a gene was passed down to you by either a parent or grandparent, which means one or more of your family members is a closet case.

The jury is not out. We are born gay. There is scientific evidence.

Mark, you are gay because of horomonal imbalances in your mother when she was pregnant. Go do the research. The intel is out there.

Personally...I was gay from day 1. Nothing about my upbringing influenced it. For me it's something very innate and biological that can't be changed, like the color of my skin. Might be different for other people but I was definitely born this way, said with 100% confidence.

I don't think science has isolated a gay gene like they have for every other human condition. None the less, I don't recall a time when I chose to be bisexual. Just always been a part of me. Ask someone who is supposedly 100 percent straight when they decided to date a girl and not their buddy and you will get an odd look.

I think we are born gay. I mean, from a genetic point of view, the female is born with just the XX chromosones, but the male is born with the XY chromozones. So, geneticists would probably say that the male has a 50/50 chance of being gay, but I think we gay guys are born with the dominant X (female) chromozone. I'll bet that if you took a survey of gay guys world wide you would find that most of them had gynecamastia (growing of breast tissue around the nipples) when they entered puberty. Whereas most straight guys probably didn't experience this (just my theory). Which makes me believe that it is a nature, not nurture, thing. But I hesitate to say its genetic because if it is then people will want to try and figure out how to manipulate the genes of the baby before he's born gay. I don't like that idea at all.

you don't choose sexual orientation is completely natural, you choose your gay culture which is another deal.

I had a conversation with my mom the other day about this, and she told me that she believes that every gay person was sexually abused as a child, which is what made them gay. I was just so astounded by her ignorance that I couldn't think of what to say back. At that point you just have to concede that some people are too stupid to bother with. I'm sad though that one of those people is my mother.

So then you were sexually abused as a child? Did you tell her that?

Don't be so hard on your mom. I've heard this very theory from gay guys who were abused as children. But how do you explain the ones who weren't?

In my opinion, we are born this way.

I think that maybe the ones who were sexually abused, something psychologically changed for them, I've heard that before myself... I guess things like that are what make people think that there must be a cause for homosexuality.

Perhaps I wasn't clear. I don't mean it's a choice, it's biological in nature and can't be helped. But I didn't really notice other men in a sexual way until I was maybe 13 or 14 years old. It never even occurred to me before I was 15 that two men or two women could be together romantically. I grew up with the idea that boys liked girls, and girls liked boys. Obviously, I was pretty naive back then... icon_confused.gif
