Just because it's theoretically cheaper to be a single gay male; doesn't negate the fact that there are those financially irresponsible gay boys and men, who will buy more seeing the can "afford" it. For anyone who spends on fancy underwear, nice pants, bi-monthly haircuts, the latest in entertainment, and weekends at the bars or with outings with friends; and let us not forget rent, owning a car, food, and utilities; it can be get pretty damn expensive looking the part of a proper well off gay guy.
Personally, I choose to live below my means. I calculate what I can afford according to the job(s) I have. Then I subtract about $100 to $200 in allowable income so I can perceive myself to be making less. I plan to spend less, buy less, and use less. It seems a little ridiculous and somewhat impossible, but once you've lived by Minimal means alone, you learn what you really NEED versus your Strong Desire to WANT. I'm not perfect, and I do have an allowance once a month on single things I'll allow myself to splurge on across the board; if the Want should prove overwhelming. But for the most part I'm a content Minimalist with enough combined belongings to store in one room.
