It's OFFICIAL! We have SimCity 5 in the works! 2013!

MAXIS just released the first cinematic trailer for the new SimCity game.

This is not in-game graphics. This is just cinematic animation.

Also take a look at the new insider's look trailer!

Visit the official website for info!

    Quotes from the website.

    Constructible Worlds

Immersive 3D worlds and tactile interactions give you the power to shape the city you envision.

Customize buildings to unlock additional functionality and offer additional gameplay benefits.

Experiment and place buildings in different locations and watch how it affects your city.

Play with new enhanced design tools like curvy roads and zoning to create the city you always wanted.

Complete missions to unlock better buildings and create the most impressive city in your region.

    Multiplayer

Work together with friends to build a region for the first time! The cities in your friends’ region will directly interact with each other.

Want to be a good neighbor? Send fire trucks to help your friend in an emergency.

Want to be a bad neighbor? Produce mass pollution and watch your friends’ Sims become sick.

Team up to share resources and accomplish great feats like launching shuttles into space.

Participate in global challenges like lowering the total pollution output in the SimCity world to unlock a trophy to place in your city.

Check regional and global leaderboards to compare your city with your friends.

Every decision in your city and those in your friends’ cities will impact the greater SimCity world.

    Specialize in What You Love

Create a unique city each time you play by specializing in a specific industry.

Build a casino resort and watch as your city becomes a major tourist attraction.

Invest in schools and become an educational enclave.

Or transform to a manufacturing powerhouse that fuels your region.

Watch as these specializations influence the look, feel and core personality of your city.

    GlassBox Engine

SimCity introduces GlassBox, the revolutionary simulation technology that gives you the power to impact individual Sims lives, manage city level simulation, and balance multiple city simulations at once.

Now every Sim has a purpose in the SimCity world, a home to go to, a job to work at, even stores to shop in.

Experience city level simulations including power, water, traffic, unemployment, taxes and much more.

Within a region of cities, attract new Sims into your city, compete for precious resources, and protect your Sims against disasters.

It’s city planning at an epic scale!

    Sims Matter

The Sims in your city speak to you directly and it’s up to you to respond by completing pledges.

Unlock rewards and earn achievements by meeting your Sims basic demands, like providing water and electricity, but soon they will ask for better schools and bigger parks.

How you manage your city and the Sims living in it is entirely up to you.

Build hospitals for the sick and provide entertainment for leisure and your Sim population will grow and be happy.

Will you listen and be the toast of the town or abuse your power for fame and fortune?

I'm seriously excited about this potential release. It's been what? 6 years since the last Sim City? I'm not counting "Societies." Have you seen Cities Xl 2012?? It's pretty incredible looking too.

Regardless, I hope that it's modable like 4 is. That ability alone has kept the fanbase going while EA dabbles.

Societies and XL are definitely not apart of the 'real' SimCity franchise especially since they both aren't developed from Maxis. Honestly though a different company could be working on this new one. Lets just hope that it is worth the wait icon_smile.gif
    And it's been 9 years, not 6 ;)
    just sayin' lol

The one screenshot that's available looks rather cartoony..very dissatisfying, though not very much information is out now. I remain hopeful

What version of Simcity do/did you have?

    SimTower was awesome!
And I remember the very first quite crude original Simcity game - residential, commercial or industrial zones came in 3x3 blocks only! I was still addicted! A friend of mine had it growing up and that was all I ever wanted to do at his house! Must have been 10 yrs old?

I am acquainted (or more) with all simcities except the 2nd version, if there was one. I must admit though the more intricate Simcity has become in its later versions (I'm meaning Simcity 4) have been...a bit "too much" for me, like it's become too much hard work, with like 30 odd cities to develop in one map, the most I've had the patience for is about 3 in any one map it gets boring to keep on doing that icon_cry.gif

But Simtower was amazing, it was just really hard to get people to not leave their "condos" (hahaha) after a while - they'd always get bored of my tower and leave. Oh the cinemas were cool in Simtower. And naming people, and following them about. And Santa Claus.

I often wondered that the missing jigsaw piece in my brain was filled by the likes of simcity. I'm surprised but not surprised to see that it seems popular with other gay guys?

This leads me to wonder if I'm not the only gay male who has had addictions to the Civilization series of games: Civ II, Civ III, Civ IV, etc. Civ Conquests, Play the World. Does anybody here know of these? They are a little bit reminiscent of Simcity etc. They are SO cool.

I used to LOVE Civilization! It was awesome. I had many nights when I'd start playing, then start a few wars, research a few techs, conquer the Egyptians (if you are a civ fanatic you will know what I'm talking about), and then I looked at the clock and it was 2AM lol
