I'm glad that this hasn't hurt Rush at all...

Think ProgressThousands of angry customers have been inundating dozens of Limbaugh’s corporate sponsors, demanding that they cut ties with the program.

So far, Sleep Number, The Sleep Train, Quicken Loans, Legal Zoom, Citrix, Carbonite, ProFlowers and AOL have pulled ads from the program, and several others are considering following their lead.

He, Rush, can say what he wants, but there ARE consequences. Certainly, he could have gotten his point across some other way.

Regarding public decorum …. Yes. It’s long known how I feel about ad hominem attacks. Rush has a very big mouthpiece, likewise, there are big consequences $$$$$. Plus, this just wasn’t necessary. How did this comment of his further the discussion? And you know that I generally like Rush. He’s an entertainer and can be funny.

Obama smokes romney with independents, and after the last 2 wks, women everywhere have officially left the Republican tent.

Probably some. The difference being Schultz made one off-handed remark, whereas Limbaugh inveighed against Fluke for 3 days. And Schultz was suspended for his misdeeds, whereas Rush hasn't had any action taken against him by his distributor.

    The difference is much larger.

Schultz suspended himself for one week - that's 7 days without pay. He also publicly apologized on air for 9+ minutes to that bitch, Laura Ingraham.

Besides, that waste of a vagina, Laura Ingraham, is a public figure, whereas Ms. Fluke is not.

Schultz's apology follows. View and listen to Schultz vs. Limbag's lame 10 second "apology" to Ms. Fluke and you'll understand why there's no comparison.

I've also embedded Laura Ingraham's response to Ed Shultz, which, at the time, was generous. Too bad she had to back peddle over the past couple of days and show the world why Ed Schultz was right to throw mud at her in the first place.

What about when Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a cunt? I noticed there was no outrage among these so called 'women's rights' groups.

I do wonder how many MSNBC lost when Ed Schultz called Laura Ingraham a slut?

NO question what Rush did was worse.

I remembered the incident, but couldn't remember if Schultz faced a mass walk out by his advertisers

Bill Maher's on HBO. Since it's a premium channel, meaning they rely on channel subscribers instead of advertisers for revenue, he can pretty much say anything he wants--short of being a Nazi sympathizer--and be absolutely unrepentant.

People from outside the regular viewership can complain, but as long as it doesn't result in a significant drop in subscriptions (which is highly unlikely given that people subscribe to HBO simply for the fact it's pretty much untouchable regarding censorship), and since the channel's patrons tend to be much more worldly, circumspect, and less reactionary than the average viewer, Bill Maher is safe. He wasn't when he was on broadcast T.V., but that never seemed a proper fit for his brand of commentary anyway.

That's the beauty of pay-cable. It's like a more adult, balls-to-the-wall version of PBS. icon_biggrin.gif

Continual double standard. About Maher, Obama never called Palin, but happily accepted Maher's million dollars for his PAC. Additional liberal bitterness as they can no longer control the flow of information and they see how their ideology of divisiveness and mediocracy is failing. They are trying to use Rush and the activist Fluke to make it a war on women instead of a war on the freedom of religious organizations. Birth control pills are readily available at low cost. It's just a manufactured issue by the desperate liberals and their media buddies. David Gregory on NBC tried to get Gingrich to talk about Rush and he responded that it was ridiculous to ask about that instead of more important issues. That needs to be the approach whenever the media asks about it. Even threads like this one reflects the need of the liberal to make this a big deal. But it is to them; it is part of their strategy to reelect Obama, anything to take away attention from his broken promises, and unemployment, for starters.

I agree with JP higher in the thread. There was a time when Rush was vaguely funny. Maybe it's the aging process taking a toll on his voice but these days, he just sounds like a really angry person.

First of all, Bill Maher is a comedian, and his reference to Palin as a cunt was during his stand-up show, in which he is very widely recognized for using shocking language like that. Secondly, Palin, like Ingram, is a public figure, in fact more-so than Ingram; which again Fluke is not. Finally Maher DID lose a lot of viewers. If you look at any forum or news article about it, people are talking about how they cut their HBO descriptions.

That being said, Maher is a dumbass for saying that. Just like Rush is a dumbass for saying what he did. The large reason Maher gets away with it monetarily is that he does not rely on sponsors like Rush does.

I remember quite a bit of outrage when Bill called Ingram a cunt. The difference is, he didn't apologize for it, nor did he feel the need to apologize. Rush, on the other hand, called this "civillian" a slut and a prostitute, not once, but on two seperate occasions as I understad it, and when the shit hit the fan...only then did he decide he had gone too far. Honestly, I would have had more respect for the man if he had either apologized immediately...before the advertisers started dropping, or if he had stuck to his guns and said "fuck the advertisers".
