    Thank your Congressman.

    Transportation Security Fees

September 11 Security Fee - Passenger Fee

To help finance the increased cost of securing the nation's transportation systems, the Transportation Security Administration has implemented Congressionally legislated{emphasis added} security fees. The revenue generated from these security fees is utilized to help ensure the safe and efficient flow {EDIT:Bullshit!} of people and commerce. For detailed information regarding each security fee please refer to the following:

The September 11 Security Fee is imposed on passengers of domestic and foreign air carriers for air transportation that originates at airports in the United States. The fee, which is collected at the time the ticket is bought, is $2.50 per enplanement and is imposed on not more than two enplanements per one-way trip. Changes to the travel itinerary may result in either additional fees or a refund. Passengers who believe they are entitled to a refund should contact the airline which sold the ticket. The fees are collected by the direct air carriers, who must remit the fees to the Transportation Security Administration on a monthly basis.

If it makes you feel any better, those long ass lines, the uncomfortable pat downs, potentially health hazardous x-rays, the suspicious "YOU could be a terrorist" looks from security...all of that...is coming out of your pocket =)

Uh, it's not like they're imposing extra taxes on milk and bread. It's air travel, something that for the grand, GRAND majority of people is a luxury they don't spend on every day. You're not going to see the proletariat masses rise in arms because they have to pay two fifty extra for their flight to Turks and Caicos.

Seeing the itemization of fees/taxes associated with anything can be an eye-opener, but it is what it is. You're not just helping to pay for fuel and transport maintenance. You're paying for practically every aspect of what it takes to board, take-off and land that plane.
If you don't like it, you could walk, swim, hitch a ride to the shore and jump on a boat, or grow a pair of wings and fly yourself to Jamaica.
