I'll wait. I just bought my iPad 2 last Fall. I don't see a significant reason to upgrade. The extra cost of the 3G/LTE isn't worth it to me. The increased resolution would look nice, but I don't think I'd really take advantage of it. It's still too expensive for what it does (IMNSHO).

I am going to get it. I sold my iPad 2 last month in anticipation of this one coming out.

I am going to wait until Amazon starts selling it. They sell it at a discount and there is no sales tax so it'll probably come out to a $100 savings just like when I bought the iPad 2. Its going to be a month or so but no rush.

TheGuyNextDoor saidYES, I'll do like last time and give my Dad this hand me down I'm on right now... He's happy to hand me back 1 and take my 2.
I'm looking forward to 4G and the Hi Def screen the most. This one's already fast, so it will be interesting to see it be even faster.

You give your dad your hand me downs? Wow. Way to honor your father.

After you give it to him, do you tell him how much cooler your new one is?

i give my mom my old laptops. she couldn't care less if its new or old. Older parents generally don't even care to have one of these products. I know my mom would not want me to spend money buying her a new laptop. She'll use it but wouldn't go out of her way to get one for herself... because she really doesn't care if she had one or not.

TheGuyNextDoor said... it's my way of honoring him for being the loving, caring father he's been all my life. Some items like this are worth staying in the family. My mom will probably take over his iPad 1 (my first Pad) or I'll give it to my Brother and Sister in-law one over mother's day. Then we'll all be iNerds!
A triple win - 1) Honoring your Dad, 2) Keeping him engaged with the wonders of technology, 3) Having a great way for a product to continue to provide satisfaction.
(Years ago I had a similar experience with my Dad via ham radio. He had technical experience decades before, and when I encouraged him to pursue this, he dusted off his Morse code skills, met up with ham radio guys in his area. Great experience.)

Nice to review commentary without suggested political overtones.

It's kinda underwelming. Are we seeing "corporate" thinking kickin in at Apple now that Steve is gone ? That is now two, play-it- safe , more- of -the-same products in a row.

What specifically is missing, besides Siri? The major feature, the display is significantly different. Read the links from Washington Post above.

Apple's policy has not changed a bit. I remember when the iPhone 3GS was announced and everyone considered it to be just a faster iPhone 3G(looked exactly the same). The iPad 2 was also just a faster iPad 1 with a camera nothing else but the slimmer lighter form made everyone think it was a completely new monster lol. People just expect Apple to change form factor with every iteration and that will not happen. This year around yes they will change the form factor of the iPhone and same for the iPad 4 next year.

That is all there is to it, people want to visually be able to tell the difference. Regardless, I still dont remember a time when people have not been underwhelmed by Apple's products. Even when the iPad 1 was introduced everyone was like OMG JUST A BIGGER ITOUCH * disappointing*. Their perception changes with sale numbers and not with the announcement itself.

This new iPad is gonna make the industry shit in their pants due to all the technology packed in the same casing at the same price while selling the highly successful iPad 2 for $100 less.

There's not enough new functionality to make me wanna trade my ipad 2 for this one. At first the updated cam sounded awesome, but I never use it anyway. I've seen people take iPads with them on vacations and use it as their camera.. Seriously. Can't see myself ever using it thay way. I'll wait til apple adds in something revolutionary again or increases the battery life to last me on my 20 hour flights to asia.

I didn't buy an iPad 2 cause I was holding out for The New iPad. I'll give ipad 1 to my partner. I'm holding out on an iPhone until it's 4G.
Will be my first purchase when I get back home.

That would be something im interested in. I'd prefer something smaller than the iPad 2 / New iPad. I had an iPad 2 and I sold it after 4-5 months. Was gathering dust.

I am already so amazed by the picture quality when watching downloaded movies on the iPad2, its hard to imagine something better. Do I really need a better screen?

What really intrigues me is the voice dictation. If it works as well as Siri, it will be SO NICE to replace typing.

Oh, no, humans NEED oxygen, food, water, clothing, shelter and social interaction.

A higher resolution screen on one's iPad would be a nice thing to have, and maybe cause less eye strain.

This isn't any different than any other Apple product evolution. How else will they garner repeat sales from customers who are continually wanting more? You know they have all the technology to probably make a walking iPad, but why do it now when they can keep luring customers back?

A few months ago I was looking forward to upgrading from iPad 1 to iPad 3... then I got burglarized and lost the 1. Insurance paid for an iPad 2 and now I'm having a hard time justifying the upgrade. FMFL.

Exactly. And it's only going to get more underwhelming as more upgrades emerge. Apple lowered the price of the iPad2, which is a real slap in the face, though it will be enough to drive impressive sales throughout the end of spring. Come June, I'd consider pulling back on Apple stock, should you own any.
