I feel like RJ should modify the forum rules so that you can't create a topic without being a verified member. I'm tired of idiotic questions from faceless profiles being taken seriously.

    What do you guys think?

RJ wouldn't be RJ without pictureless profiles flooding the site with inquiries directly involving their appearance, whether asking if they're attractive or asserting they are, which particular hairstyles work for them, what bodypart they need to work on more, or stating that they're tired of being told that they look years younger than they actually are.

^. I agree. And it wouldn't be the same without the bombardment of threads started about masculine/feminine, why Asians or blacks are/are not attractive, why pride should go away, why some 18 or 19 year-old can't find a boyfriend, and so forth.

Most of them end up being derailed and turned into fun.

Verified members are the most vile, disgusting, inhumane, vulturous, barbaric, and fucking asshole-ish fuckers that ever existed on the internet.

    Just sayin'...

I agree with Jeff. The OP should post more.

But to his point, all right-thinking RJers would support the proposal, I'm sure, but I suspect RJ has been running on autopilot for quite some time now.

    In other words...

    THERE'S NOBODY FLYING THE PLANE!!!!!!!!!

Trolls will always find a way to be trolls. No matter how much restrictions you put.

Yes, some of those faceless threads started by trolls can get annoying, but the problem with limiting starting topics to only verified members is that most people on RJ are not verified and forum participation would probably greatly drop off and those of us left would quickly get bored and so even more would leave.

RJ has flaws. The problem is there's no efficient way to address them and have the administration Chris implement ways to fix them.

Believe me, I'm willing to risk the boredom of a troll-free environment.

I suspect a lot of it will come down to $$$. TPTB won't want to lose out on advertising revenue by banning a huge group of people.

But the problem is in trying to filter out trolls by excluding unverified members is that you also exclude a much larger group of unverified members that are not trolls. Fewer people means less dollars for the owners of the site. I've said this before, but maybe a better idea would be the ability to block threads in the same way you ignore posts of certain members. This way you wouldn't see threads you have blocked keep coming up to the front page and at the top of the forum lists.

There are often new profiles without photos starting a thread to discuss some personal issue and seek advice. There are occasional comments made that the threads are trolling just because the profile is new. I don't think that is universally the case. Possible some might be very withdrawn lurkers who create a profile to start a thread when their problem seems overwhelming. Also, such threads could be made by a member who created a sock account because they felt the need to keep their identity hidden.

Have you ever asked an unverified member why they're unverified?

    "too lazy lol"
"Doesn't prove anything so why should I bother"
"Can't give a fuck to do it"

There are several threads on verification, and this is what they answer.

If they can't be bothered to take the seconds required to verify their account (with pictures they don't even have to show ANYONE, they could be in their privates) and in the process implement an effective way to DRASTICALLY reduce the spam and trolling, what does that say about them as members of RJ to begin with?

If RealJock implemented a measure to cut spamming and trolling by requiring posters to be verified would it be an incentive for you to become verified?

I don't even think it'd have to be all posters, just verification for those wanting to start a new thread.

At first thought I agreed with the idea of threads started by only verified members. But, I gotta say that weeding through the crap there is a lot of no faces that post because they legitimately need help.

We should have perhaps a separate forum that is open to only verified members to start and leave the advice threads open to whoever. Unless that happens and I have to weed through over 9000 troll threads than oh well. They're worth a laugh sometimes anyways...

I usually view those as troll threads myself. I dont think they really come here for help. I either troll them or just ignore them all together.

I agree with the OP. Verification in exchange for the ability to create new threads makes sense, and will cut down on some of the bullshit from sock accounts and anonymous trolls.

If they really want and appreciate the help they can verify their account and still remain anonymous by keeping those verification images in their private folder. I don't think it's too much to ask a considerate member seeking advice to cooperate with a unified cause to keep trolls and sock accounts out.
