That is truly sad. I hope most high/middle school experience is different. I love high school, but hated grade 8 (worst year ever).

That story made me on the verge of tears. I feel really bad for him, especially at such a young age. @The guy who posted the thread, were you out at that age to experience this or was it that people just assumed at treated you like crap?

Don't know how 'out' a person can be at age 14. In any case being "out" in Mexico isn't really an option you have (I think that's getting better now, but definitely not when I was growing up and in school). But yeah kids pick up on it extremely easy and make your life hell.

That's terrible, I'm sorry to hear that... I never knew if people picked it up on me when I was growing up in school, sometimes I thought they knew but never acted on it... and the funny thing is that I'm not somewhere that's tolerant at all especially at a young age.

It's not? Why would they post something like this and it's not real?

The Onion is a comedic magazine ... did you happen to notice the titles on the other articles

No I just read the story immediately then X'd it... that is disgusting of them to do.

PS: Just checked it and I can't believe I missed that... but still, that's disgusting of them, it's not funny at all.

The Onion generally makes fun of people and issues that don't receive enough attention or are absurd. Even though this particular article is a parody, there's still a lot of truth behind it. It's their way of making others aware of it with a sense of humor.

    1. How do you not know what TheOnion is or how it functions o_O

    2. My real experience was actually quite similar to that kid in the article.

    1. I dunno, I guess I should use the internet more.

    2. I get that but how was that kid's story in any way funny/humorous?

That's kinda like saying making fun of illegal aliens getting killed when the cross the border will bring these issue to light ... I think there are better ways of doing that

It's not about addressing the issues with a proactive agenda to solve them, it's about making satire out of them so you realize how fucked the world is. It's humorous in that way, not in the "haha I am laughing out loud way" (although A LOT of TheOnion is laugh out fucking loud funny). Literary humor is not the same as stand-up or clown humor.

There are millions of kids so routinely abused in school that eating lunch alone on a dark stairwell literally IS the best part of their day. I was one of them.

Probably just not your type of humor. Don't worry about being fooled by the story, you're not the only one that has been fooled by the site:
