From my experience, gay stereotypes are not accurate, in the sense that gay guys can be butc, effeminate, etc... have all thhe shades of the perceived masculinity barometer.

But, I have never met an effemintae guy who was straight. I don't think straight guys can be effeminate.

What do you think about that? Is that theory / hypothesis flawed?

I've certainly met 'fem' straight guys. One guy who comes to mind is the ex-boyfriend of one of my closest friends. He had a very gentle disposition and other qualities that could be seen as 'effeminate,' but he was completely straight. Despite his mannerisms, I never really suspected him as gay or even bi. He simply didn't go off on my gaydar.

IMAGE HTTP ADDRESS GOES HEREAlso http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-dressing
A transvestic fetishist is a person (typically a heterosexual male) who cross-dresses as part of a sexual fetish.

The term underdressing is used by male cross-dressers to describe wearing female undergarments under their male clothes. The famous low-budget filmmaker Edward D. Wood, Jr. said he often wore women's underwear under his military uniform during World War II.

Some people who cross-dress may endeavor to project a complete impression of belonging to another gender, down to mannerisms, speech patterns, and emulation of sexual characteristics. This is referred to as passing or "trying to pass" depending how successful the person is

I'd confirm the following stats before citing but even if out of line somewhat the numbers don't surprise me......

    http://www.hairyeyeball.net/
recent research indicates that only around 8% of cross dressers are practicing gays....According to recent statistics, a whopping 94% of crossdressers are straight,

    NEbody's gaydar going off?

    According to

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flamboyancy

Martin Levine summarizes: "Harry (1982, 51-52), for example, found that 42 percent of his gay respondents were 'sissies' during childhood. Only 11 percent of his heterosexual samples were gender role nonconformists. Bell, Weinberg, and Hammersmith (1981, 18icon_cool.gif reported that half of their male homosexual subjects practiced gender-inappropriate behaviour in childhood. Among their heterosexual males, the rate of noncompliance was 25 percent. Saghir and Robins (1973, 1icon_cool.gif found that one-third of their gay male respondents conformed to gender role dictates

About 18% of heteros were found to be effeminate (the two samplings of 25 + 11 / 2). So in the USA there's about 313 million people. Maybe 150 million male? Even if we are 10% of population that makes for 15 million gay guys, some of whom are effeminate. & 135 million str8 guys, 18% or 24 million of whom are effeminate minus the ones who butched it up after childhood but before putting on that dress.

Actually I've met more campy straight men then I have gay.
One wanted to make it clear right away; said, "everyone thinks I gay" and felt it would be easier, because it was harder for him to meet woman; pissed at me.
    Awesome, wig-man.

I know this one guy I used to work with; he's married, two kids, very quiet wife.
Everyone at work thinks he's gay because he is very effeminate to the point were other gay guys hit on him. And I get pissed, because he seems to attract the hot guys who go to our store, Eeew! But, he IS straight.

Well in my experience, and as other posters said, I do tend to believe that effeminate guys are homosexuals (out or in the closet).

This is why I started this thread, to get some opinions on what everyone else thinks / his experiences are

Then your experience is pretty limited. Several of us have said that we know fem straight guys. I know of a couple myself. And they're not "in denial" either, they live in an extremely liberal city with extremely liberal families, there's no reason why they would have to be "in denial" about anything. Not to mention that they both have/had wives and kids.

Straight guys can be fem. Gay guys can be masculine. It happens, as shocking as that is.

However, the majority of straight guys are masculine and the majority of gay guys are fem.

I've fallen for a few guys in my time, only to learn they're straight.
When I was in London last month, gave up altogether on trying to scope out the gay guys. The majority of the cute dandy guys turned out to be straight.icon_lol.gif

BS ! This is a pic of my best mate since school (hope he doesn't mind but he'd never be on this site anyway lol) and his girlfriend. He's a very pretty man but I know 100% he's straight.
