I'm helping my parents (really!) select a retirement location in Florida and welcome some RJ input.

The debate/discussion at the moment is:
    1. West Coast (Tampa, St. Pete, Sarasota, etc) vs. East Coast (West Palm, Delray, etc.) - pros/cons?
    2. house vs condo apt. - pros/cons?

    Context
    - they will live there part of the year,
    - reasonable access to international airport,
    - 3+ bedrooms, pool,
    - close to beach,
    - don't have to drive everywhere,
    - close to a manageable sized, interesting city (i.e. Palm Beach, Sarasota?)
    - 'walkable' city - i.e. nice place to walk around in (shops, restaurants, etc.).

We will likely spend some time 'on the ground' in mid-April to get a feel for the various locations.

Any insights are most welcome, appreciating that this isn't a gay-specific question.

    Regards ... JD

    Biggest piece of advice?

Check the HOA (Home Owners Association) fees AND rules carefully!!

    Sarasota and Bradenton.
They have significant infrastructure and services for senior citizens.

House versus condo depends on your parents. As they get older, they may not want to deal with the maintenance and cost of keeping up a large home. With a condo, everything is pretty much taken care of by the HOA. But as Studly said above, make sure they read HOA rules carefully. There's a lot of fine print there that can potentially make their lives miserable later on.

St. Pete, because it has a huge homeless population that'll welcome them with open arms once the FL laws fuck them out of their entire life savings. icon_lol.gif
