Someone on RJ mentioned using voice commands on the iPhone 4S. I haven't tried that, kinda confusing to me.

So I got a text message invite from friends. With the message on the screen, I brought the iPhone up to my ear. Siri beeped, and I said: "Reply to message".

Siri then asked me to speak my message, correctly naming the recipients, which I did. I looked at the screen and it had taken the dictation perfectly. So then I sent it.

A helluva lot easier than pecking out a text message! And I didn't even know my iPhone 4S had this capability. I can really be dull sometimes, but, to paraphrase the line from the movie Stripes, I'm willing to learn.

I used to hate texting till I got a smartphone. It took all of 1 hour to figure out how to use voice2text. Now I hate texting without it. icon_lol.gif

Well, I gotcha beat there. It took me about 2 minutes. But then it is an Apple iPhone, does all the thinking for you.

Yeah but this is my first smartphone, and the first hour was spent loading music to it. So in reality, it also took me 2 seconds (there's microphone symbol on the texting keypad...very easy to figure out). icon_wink.gif

I hate texting! I'm looking at getting an Android for the voice commands - it also has a great app for Geocaching that I would love to have!

There's a website that's about the humorous responses Siri says when you ask 'her' a question called whysiriwhy.com I don't have a smart phone but it's funny none the less.

I hate touch screens, I prefer to text with buttons. It's easier for me to know the button layout and text a message whilst walking and not looking at the screen. No typos ever.

Siri doesn't work with South African accents that well, and sniffs out a fake American accent like a blood hound.... I've resorted to a fake British accent, works alittle better....not so cool when people who know you hear you speaking in " British"

We're only years away from not even having to speak to send messages. The day when people have microchips implanted in them, is right around the corner. Technology is excelling at an extreme rate. in the past 10 years so much has changed.
will there ever be a need for humans to leave their homes in the future? will we all live in cocoons hooked up to energy sources and computers? does the future of humanity lie in the hands of the internet?
if so, you can enjoy your Siri technology, ill be in nature talking to the trees and animals in my commune.

PS. i bet you didnt know a 12 year old child put together your iphone. Go ahead, ask Siri where your phone was manufactured... what? she wont tell you?
    ill tell you, Foxconn.

Pretty soon speech to text is going to get to the point where it's real time, AND, the responses will be in real time too!

Just mention anything to Siri, she'll let you know if she can do it, or she'll search the web for it.

And try asking her how much wood could a woodchuck chuck. There's bunches of things you can ask her that you'll get a funny response from. And her response will change!

It can't understand my mates Japanese-Australian accent but it did with my cringe worthy fake 'Texan' accent. I spoke really slow and accentuated every word like they were a question. Then again, I could've been doing Cher.

It grieves me immensely that Siri is so fucking useless in the UK - you can ask him something (yes the default here is a male voice) and since it's not in the US, most of the time he can't answer.

Like, you can't ask where the nearest bar is or whatever, he just says he only knows about US places/businesses.

So I NEVER use it, it's completely pointless.

Bit late but better than never I guess! I was literally shocked when I realised that it was a massive fail.

The Android one ain't perfect though. It struggles with my Manc accent sometimes but you can't really complain too much when it's free.

    That^

Texting is slow, dangerous, and in personal.

I hate it when folks insist on texting rather than just picking up the phone. It's rude.
