I was watching I Am Love the other night with Tilda Swinton and it got me thinking about conventional beauty.

A lot of men find her quite scary and her looks a bit 'alien'. She's one of the most androgynous actresses I can think of besides someone like Cate Blanchett and that's why I think her appearance polarizes public opinion.

So with that in mind as gay men when you look at a picture of her do you think she's beautiful, the complete opposite or something completely different ?

I think if she smiled she's be quite pretty. she; too severe looking otherwise. Handsome maybe.

And if she darkened her eyebrows a bit her eyes, which are gorgeous, might pop more

TheGuyNextDoor saidAbsolutely! Always have... she has such a one of a kind look ; ) A true, natural beauty.
One of my favorite films she did was called Orlando where she evolves from a man to a woman toward the very end.

OMG I LOVE Orlando. She looks absolutely stunning in that film as both a man and a woman. Probably one of the best looking films I've ever seen, every frame is like a work of art.

    Absolutely hideous.
She had to have really bowled 'em over with her acting ability, 'cause she didn't win 'em over with her looks.

Yep! I think she's gorgeous and a true rarity in Hollywood. Few actresses have her cerebral screen presence, genial attitude, awe-inspiring intelligence and impeccable talent. I suppose she's most well-known for her Oscar-winning work as a morally corrupt corporate lawyer on the verge of a nervous breakdown opposite the characteristically suave George Clooney in Michael Clayton and her take on the White Witch in the Narnia films, but her filmography is practically flawless. Amazing performer. Orlando has already been mentioned, but she's also great in The War Zone, Adaptation, ...Benjamin Button, The Deep End, We Need to Talk About Kevin (great art film), Burn After Reading, I Am Love, Julia and Edward II.

One of the most glamorous women to grace the silver screen -- she'll be iconic... and aging at light speed? The woman is in her fifties and has flawless porcelain skin and appears at press junkets and film festivals with no make-up. She could easily pass for someone in her thirties. Swinton rocks.

Yes but I am always drawn to unusual looking people. And im going to have to get that film, I love her work.

Interesting about Cate Blanchette, she once said she has an actors face? perhaps Tilda does also? Another one (an oldie) is Katherine Hepburn similar face structure

edit I didnt realise she was in her 50's wow thats even cooler

I think she's striking and attractive, though not a conventional beauty. I think her androgynous look sets her apart from the Barbie dolls that populate the entertainment industry.

I can see the resemblance but in fashion terms Swinton is more Alexander McQueen whereas Coles is more H&M looks wise. Tilda is higher end.

    AnduruShe has an editorial/runway look.

    I completely agree.

I can't believe the amount of times I've heard straight male friends of mine say that Kate Moss is ugly. So there is obviously a major difference between what the fashion industry defines as beautiful and what your average Joe finds attractive.

Goes over my head though, I think she's drop dead gorgeous.
