I think that the most recent episode of This American life can help a little.

    What Kind Of Country

It seems that some conservatives would rather pay more money out of their own pocket to make sure that they get what they want than give less than what it would cost them to the government to make sure that everyone has the basics, such parks with green grass and trash cans, and street lights that work.

There are even people that are so anti-government that they support draining the government so dry that it cannot function any more. The ones that believe this don't seem to have any concept of community. It is just about what they get, no matter what the cost.

I grew up in a very conservative city and conservative leaning family. The conservatives I grew up with are not the conservatives of today. What being conservative is in the US has changed a lot the last few decades.

This video is misnamed "real time". It may shock atheist misogynist Bill Maher and Nancy Pelosi's daughter to know it, but the population of the South is more than very conservative working class white guys with thick drawls.

I should know, as I spent the first eighteen years of my life living there.
