Really? And with all those Republican politicians (Hunter et al) telling us it would be the end of the world as we know it.

Republicans get pissy about many things:
    Communism/McCarthy hearings
    Clinton's impeachment
    DOMA/DADT
    "Obamacare"
    WMDs
    Freedom fries
The list goes on and on...

After that track record of drama and hysterics, I would be embarrassed.

But it plays well with voters in red states. Who cares if GLBT are made into second-calss citizens, and many of their lives ruined. Anything to keep the GOP on top, which is the greater good, the civil rights of Americans of secondary concern, even a bothersome concept when the maintenance of political control is paramount.

    The Repubs were WRONG again!

They really have no claim to describe themselves as "right".

The same thing happened in the UK in 2000 when our government rescinded the ban on gay men and lesbians serving openly in the armed forces.

Except I don't recall the opposition ever making that big of a deal about it.

First I heard about it passing was on the cover of a gay mag; no huge debates, no swaying public opinion polls, no news broadcasts from right wing nuts claiming that we were all doomed for the suggestion of letting gays have guns.

The civil union issues was a bit more of an "issue" but even that seemed to pass with minimal resistance.
So glad I'm from a relatively progressive country.

Guys guys guys.. It was NEVER an issue in the first place.. It was fodder for the guns and god crowd to get elected.. That was its ONLY reason for being.

DADT was POLITICAL pure and simple.

Now they're going after women's reproductive rights.. It will ALWAYS be a political ploy to demonize a "group" for the GOP.. Its been that way for at least 50 yrs!

Plus, demonizing is in their bible!icon_wink.gif

Why do we live in a world were we need a military anyways?

So glad the Republicans spent 15 years fighting about this issue and bitterly opposing it -- demonizing gay service men and women in the process.
What a great use of their time and resources -- another reason the GOP has to be very proud of itself. icon_rolleyes.gif

Crazy people take power. Look at 9/10 of the GOP for example.

    Yup.
    100% true.

Of course the Repubs aren't done with going after gay Americans yet though.

Now that the Repubs can't use DADT to try to scare folks into voting Repub - they've moved on to hatemongering on gay marriage.

The Repubs' new strategy is to promise the gay haters out there that if the Repubs get elected they'll AMEND THE CONSTITUTION to make gay marriage illegal nationwide.

Now that the Repubs have lost the fight to keep DADT in place they've switched their focus to waging a war on marriage equality for gay Americans.

The Repubs just can't quit their dirty ugly politics of division.
