    To: Christian RJ members

Does anyone have a book recommendation on resolving perceived conflicts and acceptance between being gay and a Christian. I am discussing this issue with a friend and feel totally inadequate on such an important topic
so I am reaching out for help. Much thanks.

I'm not Christian, I am Jewish - and pretty religious at that.

I grew up in a very religious household, but when I left, I found many things my family had taught me didn't serve me anymore.

Develop a relationship with a God of your own understanding.

Find a congregation, a worship community or whatever that suits your needs as a person of faith.

In my experience if you seek it, you will find it.

Such things cannot be read in a book, but need to be experienced first hand.

There's a book I picked up in a used bookstore called Bulletproof Faith by Candace Chellew-Hodge though haven't finished it. Honestly, I only read the first little bit then went on vacation so only took light fiction to fill my time away, then got distracted by other books I was reading and never got back to it so can't say if it's actually worth the read or not, but at least it's something on the topic to look out for. Hope it helps.

its not a book but a website, lcna.org being a part of the ELCA im am proud that there are so many who are working for the love and acceptance of us all. also I do know pacific lutheran theology school is queer inclusive and the pastor nadia boltz-weber ( http://www.patheos.com/blogs/nadiabolzweber/ )has talked about queer issues before. i have daily struggles with these issues too "from both the christian and the gay sides" so I understand how difficult it can be, good luck!

    The bible?
The christian community blows being gay out of proportion.

The hardest thing you can do is be an OUT self loving homosexual born again into any Christian Church. Cause you'll always here rejection from the church you belong to, or about another church against yours, and it'll constantly break your heart.

You might want to look at Jay Bakker. Son of Jim and Tammy Faye. He has sort of an edgy church movement and is accepting of homosexuality. He has several messages on podcast and on his site that deal with the issue. Also his book Fall To Grace is an excellent resource. Here is a link to his site:

    OMG we agree on something.

Good advice, as I belong to no religion, and am not religus at all, but how I do have a deep faith, and I have been blessed for it too.

A wanted to become a member of a church and get more involved but I was dis heartened when I found out that gay or bisexuals can't become members. You have to sign an agreement regarding this in this Free Methodist church I've been going to and enjoying. I had a feeling about this. I'll need to find a different church now. So I am going through probably similar problems like you. Two guys were a member of this church. They got married. The church told them to leave. That is the story they are giving why we can't become a member.

jockfever: The OP sounds too smart to ask for books offering anti-Christian bigotry.

The struggle to reconcile Christianity and being gay is a tough one. Some will go to their graves without resolving the issue. It's definitely worth the effort.

I've yet to see an atheist make a substantial contribution to a Spirituality Forum. Negation is uninspiring. Atheists excel at two things -- anti-Christian bigotry and mass murder. Make that one thing -- their anti-Christian bigotry is usually based on dead-end half-truths.

You proclaim the wonders of the universe while nurturing the crazy-making delusion that Nothing created Everything? And you call yourselves "brights"?

    Greg,
I agree that "Stranger at the Gate" is a great book by Mel White.

Glad you are exploring this... you've made some huge strides over the last year and I'm very proud of you.

I'm glad this thread was started, I've been struggling with being a gay christian myself and plan on reading a few of the recommended books. Hope it helps.
