Why does everyone here seem to think they are a nerd?

It's like the new calling card. Instead of labeling themselves as a jock, or stud, they call themselves a nerd. Like they are trying to be humble about it, but by now it's so over used it becomes almost meaningless.

"Hey look I'm a fit nerd. Look at me!!!"

Some of us embrace our nerdiness. It's all we've got. icon_biggrin.gif

But do you use that as a "selling point" to make you appear more humble? What is it about you that makes you a proper nerd?

I actually still read comics and love superheroes, I wouldn't exactly identify as a nerd.....so what gives?

I've totally addressed this before. Nerd is the new (commodified) cool. Everyone wants to be one. What they don't know is the media made the nerd into the new cool ever since the late 80's and throughout the 90's.

And some of us aren't nerds at all. Some of us don't even know what WoW stands for other than to signify that it's some kind of online computer game. Some of us don't know anything about Pokemon or Dungeons and Dragons.

you can't call yourself unless you're actually a PhD, CPA, or VC and clearing 6 figures NET while under 30 yo (200k/40 yo) because of it and having you're own nerd charity to boot.

so yes, the term is heavily overused by non-nerds.

I don't know about any of those things, but I think most people would still consider me a nerd. There are different kinds of nerds.

Feeble old man. Can't do a damn thing for yourself. Isn't it time we sit you at the edge of the woods and send you on your last few days?

Wanna know the easiest way to identify if you're not a nerd? You don't know there are different types.

I could if I instructed someone to do all the heavy lifting, like a real nerd would do
