That trailer looks awesome. As someone who watched first run episodes of the original series I'd run to see this. For me, parodying a parody (after all, that original series quickly and intentionally turned camp) actually works in this case, but I'm not sure if the filmgoing audience to which this version is directed, who are most likely much younger, would get it. Sure hope Lara Parker has a cameo!

I grew up on "Dark Shadows" -- it was amazing in it's day, but it was a Gothic horror soap -- not sure if it translates into a Tim Burton comedy but it does look like fun -- just a completely different tone than the original.

I've been looking forward to this movie but I'm disappointed that Burton decided to make it into a campy joke. Will people want to pay to watch a 2-hour parody? Seems more suited to a 5-minute SNL skit...

Anything with Michelle pfeiffer and Eva Green I will watch so I'm seeing this. Eva looks gorgeous blonde too, wouldn't have thought she could pull it off but she looks hawt.

I did see an episode of the tv show once on the Sci Fi channel. It was very 'moody' whereas this looks more camp. I'd like to see Tim Burton use a different aesthethic in his films once in a while. His style is very 'samey'.

INTENSE INTENSE dislike for this trailer...what a travesty by Tim Burton and Johnny Depp ruining this remake. I really really was looking forward to this movie from the pictures. It was a little before my time as a series but because my brother and sister were so into it, somehow some of the folklore of the series trcckled down to me. I have bought some dvds from the original series and have been watching.

That trailer was absolute garbage. I have never reacted so violently to a movie trailer as I did when I saw this last night. Apparently most of the comments on facebook and on the entertainment sites are overwhelmingly negative. I like True Blood but I take that for the campy show for what it is, Dark Shadows is not suppose to be True Blood and thats what we got here. The campy 70s music is actually insulting. No need for that. They have dumbed the movie down for the masses who cannot handle any broad thinking and need to go for stupid jokes about breasts and television sets. Wow I hope this movie is an epic fail.

It does not even make sense to make a comedy out of this. This movie could have been so good but wow extreme hate for it now.

I like Tim Burtons stuff. From the trailer it seems like a total comedy. Not too sure if I'll like that but most likely I'll see it.

I have to agree whole-heartedly. This show in it's day was so cool, dark, and sometimes twisted for an afternoon soap in the 60's -- vampires, werewolves, witches, zombies -- all wrapped in a mystery surrounding main character Barnabas Collins and set in the creepy mansion on Collinwood Estate. The idea that Tim Burton has taken this classic and turned it into something akin to "Beetlejuice" is a travesty. This should have been scary, twisted, and dark -- but a comedy? No Way! Barnabas Collins must be turning in his crypt!

The storyline of the original revolved around the modern-day Collins not knowing that Barnabus was actually a 200-year old vampire... he looked "normal."
But in this trailer for Burton's version, Barnabus/Depp looks like a vampire from a high-school play, with exaggerated goth makeup. Who would think he's a normal person based on his appearance? It's hard to see how the story works with that major change.
This seems more like "The Munsters." lol

    This is terrible crap. Awful.

The original Dark Shadows was a masterpiece. It ran for 1225 episodes which should tell you something. It was a masterpiece because the psychological drama was so subtle, yet frightening and real to life. The character development and plots were superb. A daytime soap in the 1960's couldn't rely on sex or heavy violence.

DS had so much potential to be great. I was hoping for something like Silence of The Lambs, where you have a larger than life anti-hero, compelled by mysterious demons, to use his considerable talents to commit acts of unspeakable horror. But alas, they chose dumb laughs instead. icon_evil.gif

That's exactly what it is. But with The Munsters characters, we expect them to be funny. We root for them because we have a relationship to them. It wouldn't work for Herman or Lilly to be villains.

This Dark Shadows movie bastardizes the characters. The Collins family were dignified people, but with internal demons of their own. To reduce Barnabus to some fish out of water type character is a travesty.

This will work out decently if you look at it as a comedy. I was truly hoping for something much better but knowing that it's a Tim Burton film, I should have expected a hefty dose of comedy. He did right by Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands but, then again, those movies weren't based on a much loved television show.

The trailers for 1970's House of Dark Shadows and 1971's Night of Dark Shadows. These stay with the gothic horror concept much better.

Is anyone else thinking that Tim Burton was channeling Hammer's Dracula A.D. 1972?

    It's swinging London!

OK, now that I've seen the movie, it's not so much a comedy as the trailer is making it out to be. It definitely has a very dark over tone to the whole thing. I really enjoyed it. Anyone else ? icon_cool.gif

I enjoyed it, but I felt like something was either missing or that my expectations were too high. I think a sequel would do it more justice, felt like a lot of set-up.

I have no idea what he did to this and I thought Tim Burton would be the perfect guy to do a gothic soap opera movie. I can't help but say I was disappointed by what I've seen in the trailers so far turning it into a comedy, I can understand trying to make it like the Brady Bunch movie that was making fun of itself but Brady Bunch was like a funny show anyway, Dark Shadows was definitely dark... hope it's at least funny.

I must confess that I was a bit disappointed by this movie. It looks like they were trying to do WAY too many things in the movie (especially towards the end) and I thought that there were too many loose ends in the story for my liking. Certain parts of the movie were very funny, but the others were average.

Tim Burton lost it long ago.Great at visuals rotten at storytelling. He needs a good editor.
'Alice in Wonderland' looked stunning...but it was awful-especially the ending.Jaw droppingly bad.Give me 'Nightmare Before Christmas,Edward Scissorhands' ,Ed Wood, anyday..
I did see the Tim Burton retrospective at LACMA last November that was cool, but as a director he is really flawed..won't be seeing Dark Shadows.
