John Waters is one of the most subversive film makers America has produced. I first became aware of him when I caught Serial Mom on tv one night and was just bowled over by how smart, bitchy and intelligent it was. Kathleen Turner is brilliant in her role as a housewife who will 'dispose' of anyone who threatens her family's 'perfect' image.

It was a great satire on American suburbia and the idealistic lifestyle that was promoted at the time. Basically I feel we would have no Desperate Housewives if it were not for John Waters.

After that I caught up on the rest of his back catalog and fell in love with the 'Pope Of Puke'. I loved his pictures with Divine like 'Female Trouble' and nearly gagged watching 'Pink Flamingo's' seeing her eat real shit. Then there is Cecil B Demented and of course the brilliant Hairspray (the original not the sanitized remake).

He's also a great writer. A friend of mine bought me a copy of his book Role Models and it's hilarious ! Really funny chapters on subjects such as Saint Catherine of Siena the insane martyr, underground porn and Rei Kawakubo of Comme Des Garcon.

So what are some of your favorite John Waters movies ?

For me its Polyester. I love the picnic scene when the ants invade. And most of all I love the teenage girl who hangs out the window of the car screaming for adolescent joy.

I've always been torn between Desperate Living and Female Trouble.

    I love those flashbulbs!

The only film of his I don't like is Cecil B Demented - else... most everything quite brilliant. He was the pre-cursor to reality television and many many sitcoms. What's truly sad is that Divine died at the pique of his carreer - he was about to star in his own TV sitcom. Tragic, to say the least. icon_cry.gif

I'm hard-pressed to name a favorite... but it's gotta be between Female Trouble and Polyester. So damn funny! The scratch & sniff cards were PURE GENIUS!

Waters is a great director, for some reason he has been absent from making movies of late.

Serial Mom...just a total classic, great job by Kathleen Turner and her filthy mouth

Low Down Dirty Shame about sex crazed characters with Tracy Ullman was pretty hilarious as well
