Sorry, what about pink slime exactly is meant to make it unsafe to eat?

I didn't say anything about unsafe did I?? It isn't a good idea to eat too much red meat. Red slime is fat taken off chop meat partially cooked and put back into it. It's gross. I would rather have a good lean cut of steak. >

FYI- speaking of unsafe, orange juice from south america has shown to have an overabundance of pestacides deemed unsafe for consumption. I have always liked Florida Naturals.

Because the fat is centrifuged out of the meat scraps, the lean that is left is pretty tasteless. Plus all the grizzle doesn't get removed. So the product has a gritty texture often. And some people object to having their meat treated with ammonia hydrate to disinfect it, since it comes from more pathogen infected parts of the cow. Looks like hamburger tho.

Maybe they should stop letting employees bring their kids to work at the meat processing facilities.

This story has legs... our local mainstream supermarket had posters up about it yesterday, saying their meat does not contain it. I would think with store-ground meat you might be okay, but I would avoid nationally-branded frozen patties. Something similar is used to produce chicken tenders and nuggets ... unless it expressly says "100% white meat chicken" it is most likely scraps and by-products.

nytimes had an article yesterday. Processed meat increases cancer risk, i think that's a good reason to avoid most processed meat.
