"Gay" Dancing With the Stars

Apparently Lance Bass is considering competing on Dancing With the Stars, but only if he's able to dance with a male partner. On Energy 92.7 this morning, Fernando and Greg were discussing this very topic. Although Greg thought this was a HUGE gimic, he also thought that it could be a good move on abc's part, and a good step forward for the gay community. However, Fernando felt that it would only perpetuate the stigma that there is always a masculine and a feminine aspect to every homosexual relationship. Fernando said, "someone is going to lead and someone is going to follow." What's your view?

I'm doubting this is gonna happen, most would not be ready to see two men do a Waltz. icon_eek.gif

Now, if they geared it to more of energetic, contemporary and gymnastic type dance it might work. But I doubt you'd see it on ABC... maybe BRAVO

So You Think You Can Dance did this with two guys (Danny & Neil) and it was pretty cool. Plus they're two HOTTIES!!

Hmm, I don't care if it makes one look like masculine butch bear and the other like a flaming fairy bitch, pardon my french. It's not like one guy can't lead in dance and the other can't lead in another dance? I mean sure dancing in cool and all, but just because you let your man lead doesn't mean he gets to make all decisions by himself. Get real!

I dunno, if you watch this clip, it's clear that one is leading and the other following but they are a) still definitely guys and b) really good and I think it's the latter that matters more than anything else!

I would be up for seeing Lance and another guy dance off on Dancing with the Stars.

After seeing Danny and Neil go at it on So You Think You Can Dance (thanks for the footage BodyWork4, which btw was absolutely incredible!), I would be very excited to see what Lance and company can bring to the table.

    DO IT!

Some of the guys on that show look all feminine anyways with their costumes, lines and fluid movements. Hell, even Jason Taylor looked gay in a couple of his dances. So, I don't really think that's the point.

Didn't they have two guys dance a dance this season because someone had an injury? And didn't they also do it again the next night as the "encore dance"? I can't remember who it was though.

I think it would be a great change to the show. They should do it. I just don't think Len Goodman would be cool with it. He's always a stick in the mud about "tradition" and shit like that. So, I can't see him ever being cool with two guys doing all these "classical" dances.

He is wrong. Depends what the dancers intent is, depends on the level of talent your dealing and working with. Some dancers are great dancers but cannot convict and some dancers can convict but are not so well rounded in the dance genres.

Above all, it's whatever the choreographer provides you with and via correction will mold and shape the piece to be how he/she wants it. Maleonmale or femaleonfemale makes no difference at all (with regards to leading) but I think it's very easy to think differently if you're not in the arts.

    As for Lance, pass.

That's pretty phenomenal. Do you know anything about them, what kind of style they're doing? Whatever it is, I'm stealing some pages from their book . . .

Yea last season they had one guy dance his final dance with his partner's husband because she was injured, so it's not like they haven't seen it already. The reaction to it wasn't bad in the media from what I remember. Why not? Plus the whole fem/masc thing could actually be fluid, where one week the guy is the lead and the next he could follow. I think that'd keep me interested in the show a bit more.

Thanks, Gigaram-- got to keep this in mind as an option for what to study post-summer.

As to having a guy couple on the show-- hell yes. It brings up problems with how they'll dance, but seeing how they solve it is what'll be interesting. It won't be traditional, but a good tradition changes with the world.
