This is absolutely NOT true as I have seen it covered on FOX several times. However, even if it were not, people get shot all the time in the USA, and they don't cover every shooting. What makes this story any more compelling than the thousands of other shooting that go uncovered?

Because after 3 weeks this one has finally become a national story, and at the time this article was published, the only time fox news had it run, they had someone comment on how this will become an "anti-gun" thing.

And what makes this story "stand out" is that there is an entire fucking cover up going on (along with several others) in this town over the murder of black youth.

The Repubs on Fix love to play the race card (they do it on a daily basis) but they don't want to cover this story.

The Repubs on Fix are only interested in trying to make white folks look good and in trying to make their white viewers hate black people.

They're not interested in covering a story about the cold-blooded racially-motivated murder of an innocent black teenager by a white racist.

a dishwasher was beaten to death in Malibu California outside his restaurant while he took out the trash 2 days ago.

Did CNN cover it? I dunno.I doubt it.

People see signs everywhere. It has more to do with what they want to see and believe.

That young mans life holds the same value of every other murder in the country.

The fact that it is covered at ALL is extraordinary by a National market.

If the shooting was over a robbery or drugs, not 1 person would be posting about it.

What makes a story "newsworthy" unfortunately has to do if it is salacious or titillating . Plus or minus the particular bias of the network.

    Bullshit.

What makes the story newsworthy and important is the fact that this racist murderer hasn't been arrested - and the fact that it appears that the "justice" system in FL only works to protect WHITE citizens.

The point is that it really ISN'T a "national story" -- it's a local story. If national news organizations reported on every person shot in the country they would never have time to report on things that truly are national news.

I saw the story several times on Fox News. The left-wing site stated that the story was covered on only one "segment", a term they did not define, from the period from February 26 through March 19. That doesn't even pass the common sense test.

The reason it's national news is because a young man was murdered by an apparent vigilante while walking in a gated community while carrying an iced tea and skittles. This vigilante was then released without charge despite having a lengthy record of calling 911 to report black men walking in the area.

That does not happen every day.

I guess it's a national news story if or when any particular news organization wants to sensationalize it (as is done with some murders) and turn it into a national news story. However, just because one does doesn't necessarily mean that all have to follow suit. The fact that Fox News hasn't reported the story as much as some others doesn't mean anything other than that they have different News Directors with different priorities as to what constitutes "national news". This is not to in any way minimize the tragic nature of this crime.

Fix "News" is NOT a "news organization".
It's a pro-Repub propaganda machine for the Repub party.

    Everyone knows that!

Even Repub politician Rick Santorum knows that Fix is biased and working for the lamestream Repub establishment!

Exactly. He's black, so this shouldn't even be surprising enough to put in the news.

Online petitions demanding justice for Trayvor Martin are now at 900,000, breaking previous records. But Fox News can't treat this as a major story?

In contrast, Fox gave the Teabaggers extensive coverage, when they were just a handful of crabby old men. Fox even manipulated the images to make crowds look larger, and their field reporters acted as organizers & cheerleaders.

But this story hardly rates with them? Their right-wing agenda & priorities are clear. A major story on every other news organization around the world but Fox.

It is classic liberal analysis to react emotionally to a crime and expect a punishment before a trial. (with selective indignation)

This crime happened in the backdrop of many other horrible murders we don't hear about because they do not fulfill a political motive.

The question i have for the NAACP ( I did see the March 20th town hall coverage hosted by them)

Why is Trayvon Martin life worth more than the victims of say the
founder of the crips Tookie Williams?

Stanley Tookie Williams not only murdered dozens of African Americans in cold blood, he was defiant and threatened the jurors in many of his trials in open public.

However the NAACP supported clemency for him to save him for the death penalty. And held fundraisers for him. A slayer of black men.

The NAACP doesnt support the death penalty as they say. But if this guy Zimmerman doesnt get charged with it, what do you think will happen?

A grand jury is in place, the process should play out. To divine anything else is premature and reactionary.

Your comment is full of classic right-wing bullshit.

When a story breaks that makes a white guy look bad - respond by:
    Trying to change the subject.
Trying to bring in other cases.
Trying to minimize the horror and injustice of what happened.
Trying to PLAY THE RACE CARD.

And by putting words in the other side's mouths - as in your claim that liberals are asking for Zimmerman to "recieve punishment before a trial".
    That's BULLSHIT.
NO ONE has demanded punishment before a trial.
This guy hasn't even been ARRESTED.

Everyone who cares about justice - liberals and right-wingers - just wants there to be a fair trial and to have justice served in this case.

no one is Changing the subject.

The subject of the thread comments on coverage of the matter. Who does not want justice? Fox news? What evidence of that fact is there?

This thread alone is evidence of the obtuse political points being made off a murder.

Everyone's life is valuable. The media coverage so many crave is exactly what a defense attorney dreams of. It is likely to get this guy a change of venue or legal grounds for future appeals if convicted.

And it is classic conservative analysis to react emotionally to a crime with "if I had my gun that sob would be shot dead. That is why everybody should have a gun" or "that sob should be shot and/or hanged in the public square".
