So last week I order the New iPad online (or 3rd generation, or whatever the Hell they're calling it), and I get a confirmation of an April 6 ship date, with delivery April 12. That's because I'm having it engraved, which adds 3 weeks.

Today I get an Apple e-mail that apologizes for delays due to heavy volume, and my iPad now won't arrive until a date that's 1 week EARLIER! HUH???

Delays? Earlier delivery? I think Apple has gone nutz. icon_confused.gif

But of course I'm grateful for the quicker delivery, but it does make me wonder...

It is probably just a generic delay notice for those who didn't request for engraving.

Well I wonder what the correct date is? I have to be home to sign for it, and the earlier date is inconvenient for me. Most annoying!

I had the same circumstances when I ordered an engraved iPad 2 last year. Got the boilerplate date, then the "updated" date with an apology that was a week sooner. I think they try to keep shipping time expectations low then aim to please within the time frame that they previously laid out.

Hmm, so there isn't actually a problem and this is your way of announcing that you're getting an iPad 3? icon_confused.gif

They'll be obsolete by year end anyway. When the Windows 8 tablets arrive and you have an entire operating system in your hands, who'll want an oversized iPod.

Well that seems it must be the case, but why can't Apple differentiate an e-mail message that says the shipping date is sooner, rather than later? They made the date sooner, but apologized because it's arriving later. icon_eek.gif And as I said, it throws doubt into the recipient as to which date is now correct, since the revision is contradictory.

My iPad purchase was "announced" in an earlier thread started by someone else. Do try to keep up.

I wouldn't be so sure about the 'entire operating system in your hands' and unlike Apple anything Windows will be obsolete in about a week.

Any tech that hits the market is obsolete, and unlike portable windows devices iPads work, and work right the first time.

And I'm still rocking my original 64GB/WiFi iPad, so I'm sure after any initial kerfluffles Art_Deco, you'll be loving your new iPad!

Thanks for the reassurance. I've never had an Apple product let me down in nearly 30 years. So I don't expect to experience any kerfuffles with the iPad itself, even if I find this arrival date confusion sorta bemusing.

BTW, I've promised my husband he'll get to use the iPad as well, we won't follow the fairly clear division we have with our individual Macs. I think he's gonna love playing games and watching movies in all kinds of circumstances he encounters where he needs a time killer. And he'll go nuts when he finds out he'll be able to use it for organizing tasks on our 165-mile charity bike ride down to Key West this November. Before long I can imagine us needing 2 of them, just like our iPhones - LOL!

The iPad has had 3 generations for refinement. Even if Win 8 were perfect out the gate, the apps available for the iPad make it a no-brainer choice over any Win 8 tablet. Had my fill of Win mobile devices. Phone rings, phone locks up. Maybe the best thing for any Win 8 tablets is to have 3 hard buttons for Control, Alt, and Delete.

LOL - any AD issue of any sort is a reason to start a thread. Fun to think of the most trivial things, without actually starting a thread. e.g. UPS left package but only rang bell which I didn't hear instead of knocking on the door.

I own an iPad (1st gen), Galaxy S II Skyrocket and Fire.

The iPad hasn't been used in months. The Galaxy has all of the apps that I have on my iPad, and both my phone and Fire work infinitely better than my iPad; they are customizable and don't leave me feeling boxed in. If you look at the apps available for Android vs. the apps available for iPad, you'll notice that most of the popular apps are available for both.

I'm looking forward to a Win8 tablet. I can't say I'll buy one out of the gate, but it's bound to offer a lot more in terms of functionality than the iPad.

Everyone's use is different. I use my iPad all the time. What the iPad doesn't do that requires a more substantial platform I do on my other platforms. But the competition is all good, especially Android. Personally, I haven't been impressed with new Microsoft technology in years except for the advancements in Xbox. But if there happens to be a Win8 tablet that appeals to anyone, all the better. More competition - better products and prices overall.

TheGuyNextDoor saidHow much will these Win8 tablets cost? I'd be interested in seeing them side by side.
No prices have been announced yet. This will be determined by the manufacturers, not Microsoft. The Win8 tablets will be running on ARM based processors, so it will have the same benefits as current tablets.. lightweight, good battery life, decent processing, and somewhat cheaper than laptops.

One of my co-workers brought in a dev version of a Samsung Win8 tablet. It was really nice. Not as thin as an ipad or Galaxy Tab, but still thin/light enough to carry around in a briefcase or padfolio.

Financially speaking, Apple is a monster right now seriously it's unbeleivable the return it has been giving. Guess that customer loyalty might be a factor, which obviously is a consequence of the quality service (like the one you're getting).

I have to say I don't understand the purpose of buying the same expensive product every year with only very slight changes. Did you all already throw out your iPad 2's and iPad 1's? What are people gonna do when they have a huge pile of obsolete Apple products in a few years?(if not already). It's not that they are actually obsolete either, they're powerful and work great. Apple forces them into irrelevancy. I have to say it is kind of a greedy sales tactic by Apple having such a locked in product incapable of any upgrades. It can be made obsolete quite quickly. Seriously if I want a new video card or a better sound card or a bit more memory, I just buy the component and install it. I don't throw out the entire computer system and start over and buy a new one. It's kind of wasteful.
