In another forum (http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/195154/), guys talked about the dangers of too much protein in their diet -- cf especially mnjock2003.

Recently, I've been hearing about whey protein being anticarcinogenic. Eg, http://www.nationaldairycouncil.org/NationalDairyCouncil/Health/Digest/dcd72-2Page4.htm.

Does anyone know if the health concerns of too much protein are for all proteins, or just certain types (casein? soy?)?

The study about whey being anticarcinogenic is from the "dairy councils" website ... and is based on results gathered from ANIMAL testing and ONE conclusive human test... lol.
They jury will always be out as long as lobbyists control what is being touted as the latest break through.
I would advocate discussing this with your health professional. Most of what I have read on these forums regarding protein is the complete opposite of what was advised by my doctor. What is true for some of us, is not true for all of us. What is good for me may not be right for you and vice versa. But your health isn't something you want to mess around with, especially just to build a bigger body.

(Whey protein is obviously preferable as that is what is mostly found in human mothers milk.)

I can't remember exactly, but there's something in whey protein that's also supposed to be good for the kidneys. I read it a few years back.

High protein diets can increase nitrogen content within the body and in theory it's supposed to not be good for you.

I find that when my nitrogen levels are higher due to increased protein intake that I get a bit constipated. And when I forget or become lazy and not eat my protein that I become very regular. I simply increase my fiber intake to combat this nuisance.

I should have quoted a better source, like these from PubMed -- very short abstracts.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17430183?ordinalpos=1&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum

(Sorry about the 2nd link -- I can't get the "URL" control to work)

Mnjock, I also have a strong history of prostate cancer in my family, so I'm high risk, like you. But then I saw notices like this, and have upped my whey protein intake but not hugely. I guess I'm taking about 100 Grams a day.

MoreMuscle...LOL...I have the opposite effect with protein. My body is LOVING it!!!!

Again,
They are quoting and basing their information based on ANIMAL studies, not human studies. Animal studies are RARELY effective in these instances. We have entirely different nutritional needs from a rat or from the other usual lab animals.
