SO there was this 'couple' beside my friend and I in the movie theater tonight. They were having a good time throughout the night, as was everyone in the movie (P.S- It was The Lorax fyi), and decided to stay and watch the credits. My friend and I decided to watch the credits too, giving them the time to pack up and have a nice ending to their date without having to rush out.

As they were leaving we became confused because although it was no surprise the girl was wearing riding boots...the guy was too, along with a fashionable trench-coat (not that that mattered). It was at that point we figured maybe it wasn't a date but that they were really good friends..

As we exited the theater and were going down the escalator to the subway station, we saw them in front of us holding hands and kissing?

Now back to my original question...can straight (or better yet, any) guys wear riding boots? What can it work with?

Straight guys can put their riding boots beside my bed. I don't want them dirtying my sheets.

I've seen many fashionable hetro couples. I would not blink an eye if he was wearing the same style of riding boots as his girls. In fact its kinda cute that they like to be coordinated. My sis and her hubby like to be coordinate with their clothes as well.

To summarize it, yes its ok for a straight man to wear riding boots.

Yup. And they should be able to wear thigh-high boots if they want.

If straight men can carry totes and wear kilts, they can sure as hell wear riding boots.

A nice look although slim/skinny pants would look much better in my opinion.

I have riding boots because wait for it.... I rode horses. It drives me nuts when I see people wear them fashionably.

The way I see it: Anyone can wear anything, and who are we to judge?

Clothes aren't just fashionable, they also serve a purpose of warmth and protection. Who cares what other people wear?

... or a motorcycle. They're ideal for bikers, and I wore them myself. Though often I just wore shorter military boots on the bike, my civilian jeans "bloused" into the tops like uniform pants, very gay.

Can they or would they. Sure they could. But it's doubtful they would unless they had a reason.

I wear riding boots when I am riding my motorcycle.

    Then again I'm not straight.

Having, in the past, been an English Hunt Seat rider (dressage), I agree. I wouldn't wear riding boots unless I was riding, any more than I'd wear a riding helmet* in public. (Unless it was for a costume party, and even then, it would have to be a last minute desperate choice.)

Additionally, riding boots without riding britches or jodhpurs looks more than merely affected.

*The old style helmet from 20-30 years ago, that might pass as a hat and not the heavily padded current type that, while obviously safer, make the wearer look, well let's just say "dim".

I think that there are a select few straight men out there that can totally wear riding boots, and that select few look sexy in them.
