The reason, Talackova claims, is she was born male.

“She did not meet the requirements to compete despite having stated
otherwise on her entry form,” stated a Miss Universe Canada release issued on Friday.

“We do, however, respect her goals, determination and wish her the best,”
it concludes, without specifying what requirements she did not meet.

Responses to her plight posted online have been mixed.

Some have welcomed her inclusion in the competition, while others believe such pageants are for women born as women.

There is no mention of rules regarding sex-changes or cosmetic surgery.

During an interview for a transsexual beauty pageant in Thailand — Miss International Queen 2010
    — the Canadian representative refers to herself as “a woman, with a history.”

Technically she's not a biological female. If I comment on this I'll just dig myself a hole. What do you guys think?

If she is post op and has legally changed her gender - how would anyone know unless she disclosed it?

Which is, I suspect is one of the reasons that likely disqualified her, depending on how extensive it was.

Maybe it was because she wasn't born a female or the fact that going from male to female requires surgery where she could request what the outcome looks like which is unfair to the other competitors. I don't know about the rules of the contest but I'm pretty sure that it's against the rules to have had major plastic surgery done.

In the long run she'll probably get more press and future opportunities from this PR gold mine than had she just participated normally.

Based solely on the fact that I'd have no issue with dating a transgendered female-to-male, if the transition/surgery is complete, I think she should be welcomed aboard as a female.

After all...if she had remained a male, the homophobes woulda bashed her for being a wannabe woman anyway. Might as well make the homophobes drool and hate themselves at the same time by letting her be keep the title. icon_biggrin.gif

And I really feel sorry for the bi guys who woulda liked her either way. icon_lol.gif

This is a fair point. How much cosmetic surgery are the girls on stage allowed to have before it becomes "The Swan" and not Miss Universe?

Is it a beauty contest? Then I think she's more than qualified and if the other women can't beat her then they're just not pretty enough.

Is it a chromosome contest? Then perhaps she does not qualify but it doesn't seem to indicate that this is the case.

Here's a little article on the brouhahaha. Gosh, pretty girl!

    http://www.fashionmagazine.com/blogs/fashion/2012/03/26/they-saidwe-said-miss-universe-canada-pulls-finalist-after-discovering-she-was-transgendered/

The org is saying contestants must be born natural women, but don't state that in their requirements to qualify. There is the plastic surgery thing as well, although degrees of it that are acceptable aren't explained.

Suppose you had a bad bite and got your jaw realigned when you were 16? Then what?

Technically she still is a man even tho she is a very attractive woman. She doesn't have a vagina, and her orgasms are still cum shots, and she lacks the female breast. She looks like a man even tho she is on hormone therapy, however the sad truth is the doctors can't change the male physiology into complete female physiology. Sure she is taking all these drugs, but the problem is that her body is still a male's. If she works out she will produce more testosterone than a female, she also needs drugs to keep her body from becoming into a man's again. W/e If she is happy with what she's done with her body then it's ok, but from a student of health and fitness, it wouldn't be fair, and ethical to compete in such events. Sorry icon_sad.gif

I have mixed feelings about this, but mostly I get why he/she was disqualified. It's not like he/she was not allowed in medical school or fired from a job where he/she had been employed in good standing. Miss Universe is not a drag show (I know, I know "tranny" is not drag), or a competition in which "Miss" should be left up to to interpretation. Miss Universe, cheesy as it is, has a long-standing tradition and I think they should be allowed to draw the line somewhere. A man who becomes a woman, then tries to compete in one of the biggest beauty contests in the world, becomes a distraction to the entire event once this information becomes public. I'm not saying that is fair, but as someone said this whole thing will probably get he/she more publicity than she would have ever gotten otherwise.

I think they should open up beauty contest like that up to transexuals. Most 'born this way' women are half plastic vapid bitches anyways, not too much of a difference other what is actually hidden by panties.
Maybe after gays learn to be more vocal about their Equality and don't take table scraps we can help give a voice to the tranny minority in our own minority. icon_idea.gif

Some women are heavy producers of testosteron and they are still considered to be women. Some others were born with women genitals while having male chromosome and they end up finding out the moment they try to have children. These are also considered to be women, regardless.

I don't know why I'm responding to this thread at all but here goes.

I believe that 'beauty pageants' are a very singular and narrow propagation of the idea of 'woman' based upon hetero-male identification with the power of the phallus ('woman' as masturbatory tool, like the penis, engorged for self-pleasure). Those events are not contests of anything other than ideology and what morphological extreme can best approximate what the particular judges identify with through their phallic fantasy. Miss Canada (it's hard to even type that without smirking) is as valid a contestant as any other chimera of desire given that surgery, pharmaceuticals, and expert cosmetics are no different tools of illusion as media for propagating a surface projection.

Anyway, big 'yawn out' to this one.

Are you talking about what people consider women? or what biology says a woman is? Because if we go by what people think, "we are wrong for being gay". Yes, because the parents failed to reproduce properly. Birth defects do happen due to lack of maintenance of the sexual organs, and/or luck. However, this contestant chose to go from male and female, she was born a fully functional man but do to some reason, she chose to be a male. There are differences between men and women, some of those differences carry over when a man decides to do surgery to look like a woman. For example men have more blood than women, making it easier to exercise since they can get more oxygen to the muscles, allowing to burn more calories. This means that a man can work out longer and better than a women, giving them an unfair advantage when losing weight and sports events.
