and I say to the cop:

    Are you free after work?

The rest of the story is published in the Canada's Gay and Lesbian Newspaper Xtra.ca:

As I was on RealJock at the time - though I was actually contacting a guy on ManHunt ... ... ... to meet up for a beer - I'd be interested in your comments.

After reading the whole thing, expecting to find something int he article that showed you were being mistreated, I think everyone involved treated you a little better than you deserved and you're playing the gay card for sympathy.

This. The phrase "special little snowflake" leaps to mind.

I do need to say, that I do consider this to be an accurate account of what happened on the evening of 08 12 2011. The reporter, Richard Dalton was very careful in his fact checking. The tag line and comments above are a hook. Though true.

umm... this story doesn't portray you in a very good light. You seem like a bit of a jerk actually... I don't know you or presume to know if you really are a jerk... but not sure it's the only thing I'd want people to know about me...

Sounds a bit like you were stirring trouble.

It certainly doesn't sound like you were kicked out for being gay or being on a gay dating site. It sounds like you were politely asked to cover your screen when someone noticed pornography. Was there genitals on your screen at any point? And could customers at the bar see your screen? If this were the case, I can see why they had an issue with you. I imagine they would ask the same of a straight man looking at naked women.

Sounded like the beginnings of a gay novel sex scene. I don't believe more than 50% of what I read/hear; cause there is always more to each side of a story. So, how is your dating life going Owen?

Wow, that's crazy. This is exactly why I tell my friends to be careful when they are on grindr and MH in public.....

Sorry. You were in the wrong. That's the problem with these phone apps....sometimes you get more picture than you really wanted to see in public. They asked you to move to a corner and you refused. Being drunk is no excuse. Get over yourself.

    JPtheB is right.

You know what is so funny... I used to check my MH, a4a, and other gay accounts in public libraries, but noone ever said anything to me. I was coy and respectful about privacy and the eyes of strangers, but still... you think their firewall would be up and they'd get enough hits on certain sites to actually make a "request" for me to stop viewing? Lol. AZ, good times.

It may be accurate, but do you have word it the way you do? I like my guys a bit of a hero in their situations; especially in something that could've turned out as funny as this. Self pity and sad face stories turn me off; sorry Bloke : |

The impaired judgment in the bar indicates you were already drunk - and you were on Manhunt to meet a guy for a beer?

    Intervention and 12-step program, methinks.

What a complete anal over-reaction! Owen - avoid this bar and I hope you get an apology from the police! If you had been watching rampant buttfucking then yeah but if you were checking out the apps - oh for fucks sake. Thought we'd gone back in time to Victorian Britain for a bit....

Agreed....Gay or straight customers should show decorum and courtesy, neither of which was exhibited with drunken disorderly and provocative behaviour. This is only a human rights issue for the bar owner, staff and other patrons. It's a disservice to anybody who identifies him/herself as gay

    Actually, ya, I was.

I'm living in a fairly remote part of the country. For example, the nearest guy to me on Grindr is usually 142 km away. I had been in contact with the guy in question on ManHunt on and off for a couple of days. And our conversation was basically along those lines. "Let's meet up for a beer, sometime."

The article is very carefully written, with most statements qualified with "he says". Statements of fact are stated as fact.

I'm known as being among the most liberal of members here, and a defender of gay civil rights, an opponent of discrimination. But honestly, it does sound like you were simply drunk & disorderly, little to do with gay. Even the issue with the gay porn on your laptop is not in your favor in a public place, unless you can prove that bar allows straights to look at nude women on their computers (and even better, women viewing male nudes).

I'd advise you drop any thought of legal action. It's gonna hurt whatever reputation you have in that community, and get you barred from more places.

Wow --- most people would probably be mortified that this happened to them, let alone that it got reported on in a newspaper. Now you're broadcasting it on RealJock, maybe even considering a lawsuit --- Seriously? This does NOT put you in a good light. You're the winner of today's "GAY WITHOUT A CLUE" award.

Well, the bar is a private business and can have any house rules it likes that fall within legal constraints. (in other words a bar can't have a house rule to beat up gays or slap women, lol)

So, you have to follow the bar's rules when it comes to conduct. If they say no nekkid peeples pics or gif porn (which RJ gets a flood of at times) then that as they say is that.

From the sounds of it, though, they just wanted you to be more discreet (move into a corner with it). icon_question.gif

    1. You took a laptop to this place and let other people see porn from various sites.

    2. You would not move to a private corner when staff at the pub requested you do so (to enable you to have privacy as you visited the various sites with nudity).

    3. You caused a problem when you were ejected from the pub for intoxication and bad behavior.

    4. You returned to this pub even though they let you know you are not welcome.

Solution: Never take a laptop to a pub and view porn on it. Never return to a pub where you've made a fool of yourself and where you're clearly not wanted.

So I think what you're trying to say is don't watch porn in a bar? I don't get it. icon_confused.gif
