So I have been hearing that sprinting, instead of jogging/running, is superior to fat burning & keeps you from burning off muscle in comparison with those.

I've done p90x's cardio for over a year now, 4 - 5 times a week usually (the plyometrics disc & the cardio x disc interchangeably).

Is it just using time that could be better spent sprinting fullspeed on a treadmill for as long as possible, or sprinting down my street? Same results?

    What do you guys think?

Thanks. I'm not into building Conan size for myself, I like lean & toned look, if that helps.

There are several threads in this forum about HIIT - High Impact Interval Training.

Do a search for them and they'll answer your questions.

HIT should give you a better after-burner effect in a shorter period of time in comparison to regular static cardio.

    Example routine

2-3 minute warm up at 4-5 MPH

    Then perform 5-6 reps of...

    60 seconds at 9-10 MPH
    120 seconds at 4-5 MPH

To increase the difficulty lower the rest time (the 4-5 MPH pace) from 120 seconds, to 90 seconds, to eventually 60 seconds.

Workout time should be around 20 minutes, with about a 2 mile run.
