UPDATE 6/2013: Now that it's been out for awhile, post what you thought of it.

Update: Bully gets PG-13 rating but keeps Fuck-bomb tirade:

The filmmakers behind "Bully" — the lauded documentary about the national bullying epidemic — stood up to the system and won.

The Weinstein Co. said Thursday that after cutting a few F-bombs from the piece, they got its R rating reduced to a PG-13.

The Motion Picture Association of America’s ruling means the flick’s target audience can now get in without dragging mom and dad to it. The original R-rating met anyone under17 couldn’t get in solo. (Notice how they typed met when they meant meant.)

The one crucial scene on a bus where a 12-year-old is tormented is left in, F-bombs and all. A few curses in other scenes were cut.

Awesome. About time someone stood up to the MPAA.

You're awesome! Thanks for posting. Like most problems, they start at home, and with us; the individual. If you don't want to see bullying, stand up for the bullied; and stop think and act right when you find yourself about to start bullying.

    Awesome!

People like to chalk it up to "boys will be boys" "girls will be girls" and as if it's some rite of passage.

So glad they didn't rate it so the target demographic couldn't see it.

I think it will get such good reviews when it opens in NY and LA this weekend that more theaters will come on board to show it. Some are hesitating without the rating, but I'm sure $$$ will prevail.

I bet schools will eventually show it in an auditorium setting, but will have kids take home a permission slip for their parent to sign to see it.

This whole fiasco proves why film censorship is just so so stupid..........you wouldn't think we were in the year 2012.

Still, if it's unrated it's target audience still can't watch the film without supervision/consent. However, it's very clever of the Weinstein's to pull this shit, it's going to guarantee a fuck load of press.

Regal Cinemas announced it will treat it like an R rating, hence, take your business elsewhere. See it at AMC and whatever chains follow to allow it to be unrated. Use your $$$ power.

The MPAA has been a crooked junta since its inception....good for him in beating them at their own game. The Film Is Not Yet Rated does a great job at exposing how much cultural and political manhandling goes into the ratings process...especially related to homosexual content.

Hmmm, while this film is certainly an admirable effort it will have very little effect, if any at all! When the bullies themselves see this film they will laugh themselves silly! All the warm fuzzies, "It gets better"s, even heartwrenching portrayals of victims do virtually nothing to stop bullying! Bullies only understand one language: tangible and physical punishment!!! I know, I've dealt with bullies firsthand! Complaints to teachers and school administriators are just about equally ineffective. The kids can only be supervised so much and with the litigeous society we live in teachers, prinicipals and school boards are not afraid to do anything but powerless to do much as well. Some of the victims have sued school districts, and this doesn't help the problem much either. It only deprives other students of badly needed educational funds. The most effective way to deal with bullies is to sue their parents in court and extract big financial sums for their failure to deal with their children's behavior!!!! Bullies come in all ages, from all socio-economic groups, all religions and both sexes. Rather than dealing with the symptons of bullying, like all things, the root is the only effective place to deal with it!!!

I believe, as you can see in the trailer, that the film deals with all of your described hurdles and urges students to step up and befriend those in need. I think that will be the most tangible message.

I seen another movie very similar recently.. I think they serve a purpose but everybody needs to understand that today things are a thousand times better than 40 or 50 years ago when I was growing up. Also when I was growing up some of the worst bullies were the teachers and other parents... Not to leave out the hypocrites in the ministry...

Befriending someone being bullied might help somewhat but it won't solve the problem by any means! Those befriending the bullied person may be really reluctant to befriend anyone like that at risk of being bullied themselves. Again bullies understand one language and that is serious physical consequences to their actions and nothing else! Judging by the trailer this film seems full of warm fuzzies and victims and short on tangible consequences for the bullies. Again teachers and schools for several reasons can do only limited things to stops bullies, even police departments are not effective as they certainly could be. Direct action against the bully's parents is still the only truly effective way to combat this majore problem. I stand by every one of my earlier statements!

After being subjected to many threads of hate dedicated just to me during my many years here at RJ just for not swimming with the mainstream political flow here at RJ,because even a dead fish can do that, for being an individual, and not letting my sexuality define me as a whole, or dictate the way I vote, and well knowing that with change advancement for the better does not always follow.

I suggest many, many members here from the gay left truly do need to see this movie. Because I do ponder if they are blind to their hatful bulling ways, or are just able to justify their hatful actions in their minds, thus see no wrong with all their hatful ways; as many bullies also so like to play the victims to..

Oh I know I am going to be attacked for this wee truth. were the truly hatful are going to want to drag me down with themicon_rolleyes.gif When I had been forced to speak out and back.

Yes I have had you wish me dead, wish me harm too, I don't doubt that if you knew were I lived and you could get to my pets, I would come home some day to find them all dead; just because I do not see things your way, and do not vote the way you think I should. Thats more than bullying, thats pure hate.

But Hunger Games (Which is kids killing kids) is rated PG-13. I loved that movie but seriously the rating system is so stupid sometimes.

It actually might get a PG-13 after some edits. Personally, at this point, the makers should just keep it "unrated" http://www.towleroad.com/2012/03/sources-claim-new-bully-re-cut-will-be-pg-13.html

im a victim of this and i believed that there's a psychological trauma inside of me, i become sensitive, loner, hard to reconnect to people who hurted me even they make effort to show there sorry instead i always tried to stay-away with them, i hardy trust people, so since high school i don't have gay best friend because inside of me i'm always praying to God to make me arouse with girls but til last month it wont happen so i stop pretending and start accepting myself, i want to learn deeply about myself and start a new life of acceptance and let my natural urges dictates the right way. On a lighter side i become independent, humane, & artistic.
