I didn't become a member on the forums to be made to feel like I'm still in high school. Yesterday a fellow member asserted that I would have sex with a person because he is white. I don't need to explain why such an ignorant, racist put-down is unacceptable in this setting (and also in violation of the Terms of Use). Such language and behavior goes against the basic values of tolerance and respect which are core to any functional community.

As part of the LGBT minority we all know what it's like to be insulted and unfairly discriminated against. Let us not turn into those who we sought refuge from in the first place. Let us be better than them.

If you see a harmful comment, either in general or targeted at an individual, the simplest action you can take is to speak up against it. Your words will not go unappreciated. Given that most of us are athletically inclined, positive actions like that are a natural demonstration of good sportsmanship.

1- People are gonna say dumb ignorant shit. You have to accept that from the get go.

2- If you don't have skin tough enough to brush it off you'll only set yourself up for discomfort by staying in a public message board.

3- Use the tools at your disposal to your advantage (report hateful posts, the Ignore/Block buttons).

    1. Yeah but I don't have to accept it. No has to. The fact is most people would rather leave a toxic relationship or dysfunctional community. Hopefully it won't come to that.

    2. I have no problems feeling uncomfortable. I have problems with immature and insensitive people.

    3. Done and done.

yourname2000 saidWhy is it important to you what strangers on the internet think?

(Not trying to be mean, but it just shouldn't be.)

We all care about standards. You do as well, implicitly. If realjock as a whole had a certain different tone or atmosphere, you might not choose to be here. Such conversations are not irrelevant.

    Yes this.

People call me ugly, stupid, immature, gay...
People call me cute, intellectually inclined, wise beyond my years, and well definitely not straight..

None of it means shit coming from a piece of platic metal and glass

The site is what it is. It won't change because you don't agree with it. Like it or leave it.

    ChangeofName saiddirt off ur shoulders...
the only reason you are upset is because it's somewhat true.
... in the words of Madea, It don't matter what people call you. It only matters what you answer to.

I was upset because it was a distorted falsehood about me, and because it reinforced invalid generalizations about an ethnic group.

Your advice about ignoring the scummy stuff and moving on, I fully agree. But that's not incompatible with what I said above, about proactiveness and sportsmanship. Besides, it's not really the sensitive people that need to change; it's the assholes that need to shut up or ship out.
