I hate all these idiots´╗┐ that come from just seeing the movie and not reading the books, calling it a 'batle royale rip off'. no, it really isnt. go read the books and shut up.

Similar concept that has been done over and over.

The Most Dangerous Game, Lord of the Flies.

You could also look at the ancient roman empire as influence, with the gladiator arena's.

I have read both Battle Royale and The Hunger Games series, I've seen the Hunger Games film, but haven't seen the Battle Royale film. I can tell you from the perspective of the books, they are very very different.

Mainstreaming a book to a movie can only get you so far before the movie's writer's and producers have to start relying literary devices and movie standards to make the plot, "understandable" to people who have never read the book. It's been taken to Hollywood. How can you not expect none essential elements to be added, changed and removed to make box office gold. I can be certain what I had in my imagination reading was nothing like the movie... then again, I don't have to budget to make a movie. icon_neutral.gif

I like Battle Royale more. Hunger Games, concept-wise, is very much like Battle Royale; except it's very watered down, kind of a child-friendly version of it. I don't just mean visually where Battle Royale is a lot more gruesome, but also psychologically.

I just saw The Hunger Games... it was awesome! However I prefer Battle Royale.

I was intrigued by Battle Royale's premise of throwing a class of children, who all thought they were heading to a class trip, into an empty island and forcing them kill each other, unlike in the Hunger Games where the tributes were trained in battle/survival skills. The BR kids pretty much knew each other; there were cliques, star-crossed lovers, scores to settle, grudges, etc... but now the BR children have a deadly weapons to help them deal with their issues!
