    Where are you? icon_biggrin.gif

I became accustomed to heavy metal music from a very early age. My dad and my best friend's dad were always listening to old classic bands such as Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Queen, ... . So for me it's always been a part of my life. As the years progressed I started to delve deeper into the different types of heavy metal and found out that there's a huge and booming underground scene filled with incredibly talented musicians. I started listening to Morbid Angel, Incantation, Pentagram, Immortal, etc.

I'm now 25 and still as passionate about it as ever. I frequently go to festivals, gigs, ... and much of my social life is centered around metal. I like everything provided it has a certain DIY mentality and it's true and honest. I mostly listen to (old school) death metal (stuff like Winter, Asphyx, Entombed, Nirvana2002, Immolation, ...), but pretty much all genres have a place in my playlist. It's all about the quality of the riffs!

And of course heavy metal is perfect music to listen to while working out. THere's nothing like lifting heavy with Beneath the Remains (Sepultura) playing in the background. Gets you pumped like nothing else!

If I ever have any children I plan to train their ears from very young age, so that they learn to appreciate it, just like I did. icon_biggrin.gif

Seems Ghost are getting pretty big... I know who the singer is, but i'm not going to ruin it for the fans.

Here's an excellent Ghost live vid:

I'm somewhere in one of the front rows, but you can't actually see me, i think. Skip to around 2:25 if don't want to see the intro.

@SomeGuy89: Never tried Vital Remains before. I do remember a friend of mine recommending me their 'Forever Underground' album, so maybe I should give a try. You like any other death metal bands?

Also, there's nothing as off-putting as seeing a very masculine looking guy, only then to find out he's the biggest Madonna fan out there icon_biggrin.gif

    Old school metal head here.

Toss me some late 1980s Megadeth or Anthrax or Iron Maiden.

Or some newer stuff as the OP mentioned.

And I loves me some Dethklok while working out. icon_razz.gif

Hear hear! Nothing beats Powerslave. I still listen to it on a weekly basis. Good to see some other gay guys appreciating the power of the riffs. They are a rare breed, also among heterosexuals for that matter.

Nice. Seen 'em live about 6-7 years ago. They were good fun back then. Their stuff can get a little stale after some time, but they nonetheless have some albums with superior riffing. Also, a good example of a very down-to-earth band that doesn't compromise it sound for money grabbing.

Yeah Amon Amarth are amazing live ! I've seen them 3-4 times.

And i'm going to see Behemoth next month icon_biggrin.gif

But the most violent show i've never been to is definitely Origin icon_twisted.gif

big fan of Pantera, Clutch and Throwdown. I guess they are 3 different kinds of metal but it still counts right?

@Someguy89: Origin is a bit too hyper and on the technical side of things for me personally, but still i'd love to see em live at some point. Must be something special. I prefer my death metal rotten to the bone and evil as fuck. A good example of this is the mighty Incantation:

I mean, seriously. This is off the wall. Completely dissonant and the vocalist sounds downright demonical. Btw this album (Onward to Golgotha) is notoriously difficult to get into. It took me about 3 years before I could appreciate the disharmony of the melodies and riffs.

I like female-fronted metal... not big on the soft-voiced shit though. Give me screams, growls, AND loud clean singing.

Nice. Haven't seen Grave just yet, i think. I'm huge fan of the old Scandinavian death metal scene though. Most albums had an infamous guitar sound and plenty of doom elements in their sound. You play the guitar? I have a bass guitar lying around my place, but don't play too often anymore.

Why specifically female-fronted metal? You prefer female voice?

I prefer male voice, because i think it's better suited at bringing across the 'darker' parts of heavy metal. There's one all-female band that I like a lot. They are called Derketa and play very raw old doom death metal. That's about it though. I'm definitely not a fan of the more symphonic female bands out there. I'm not that big on those samples you posted either... But each to their own. That's the nice thing about metal. There's so much variety...

Probably one of my favorite bands and also my name here is Truppensturm.

I've seen em live two times. First time was in some bunker in Germany and it was absolutely crazy. Total chaos and blood-red faces everywhere... Luckily I wasn't standing in the middle of the action or it could have turned out quite ugly... Brilliant band though. Very militant sounding and completely unforgiving. Just watch out when you go to one of their live shows icon_razz.gif

Yo! Im a huge metal head! Headbanger, etc... icon_smile.gif

I prefer more old school 70s/80s Heavy Metal (& naw that doesnt mean "hair" bands).

Im big into the old oldschool Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Deep Purple..

Then my main subgenres of metal i jam to is The New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWoBHM), & Thrash metal.

Oh, since ya mentioned the awesome newer band GHOST , they happen to be my FAV modern band icon_smile.gif im even wearing their concert-T in my profile pix...

    They're badass!

Some good bands on that list there. Early Ulver and Morbid Angel are of course supreme. Wolves in the Throne Room works well on record, but bores me live. Their whole image looks a bit fake too. I'm not sure what to think of it. However Two Hunters is a great album. Keep an eye out for the new Skagos album that is coming out. Very similar in style to WitR. Slayer is of course classic.

Haha nice. I never had long hair. Eerly Immortal is where it's at for me. Especially Pure Holocaust is probably the best Norwegian black metal album that came out during the 2nd wave. Together with De Mysteriies Dom Sathanas (Mayhem) obviously.
