Hey guys... just wondering if anyone has any tips for a person traveling to Miami beach. Recommendations on places to stay, eat, explore tourist sites, (gay) nightlife, good beaches, etc.

I'm planning a trip there for July 3rd to the 10th, and haven't actually been able to find much information, minus some of the other threads here, though most of them are dated at least a half a year back.

I'm not able to drive, so if there are places that are within walking distance, that would be pretty great. And by walking distance, I mean within reasonable time - I don't mind walking for 40 minutes.

I would really appreciate any information/feedback.

Okay here's the skinny on having a good time in Miami

First off you don't need a car if you stay anywhere on the beach itself .... Most notably in South Beach because that's where everything is

There are plenty of good hotels to choose from that go from the relatively inexpensive to the whole hog WTF? In price so take your pick there

The beach you'll prolly wanna go to is the 12 th st beach .... That's the gay beach here in Miami ... You can't miss it because it's marked off by gay flags and it's almost exclusively male

There are restaurants and bars all along the beach as well
For lunch ESP on the weekend you'll wanna try the Palace Bar which is really a burger place but it's where all the gay men go after the beach
There is a drag show on Sats Suns ....MIT you like that

Bars and clubs are scattered all over the MB area
Take a look online for a map
But try Score .... Good music and dancing plus they have an outside place to sit on Lincoln rd and people watch

MOVA is a nice upscale bar .... Nice class of men there and it's right off Lincoln rd as well

Lived there for 2 1/2 years until last weekend. You can't go wrong if you stay anywhere on Ocean or Collins in between 5th and 20th. Everything you'll need will be in that vicinity. Whatever you do, don't eat or drink anywhere on Ocean. WAY overpriced and everything is mediocre in quality. The exception would be Palace Bar only because it's gay and can be fun, although ridiculously crowded on Saturday and Sunday. MOVA is the only real gay bar in South Beach and it's pretty good. There are only two gay clubs in South Beach: Score and Twist. Score is fun if you're only interested in dancing and not meeting anyone. There tends to be attitude and nobody really talks there. People just either dance or stand around posing and looking at each other. In my opinion, Twist is much more fun. People are friendlier and there are several rooms to choose from so if you don't like the music or crowd in one room you can just find another. If you're looking to meet people, Twist is the place to go. If you want to stay right at the gay beach and next to Palace, the Hotel Victor is a good hotel. I used to work in the spa there. Good place to get a massage. Not as good now that I'm gone. icon_biggrin.gif If you'd like a gay hotel, The Lords is right behind it on Collins. Might be more fun for a young gay guy. Watch your wallet, wear a condom and you'll have a fun time! Let me know if you need any specific info and tips.

Well don't have any hopes of meeting any RJ guys while you're down here. I relocated here several months ago and am moving back to New York next Wednesday with nary a welcome wagon or proper send-off. Oh wait, you'll have no problem - you're 23.

Am also staying in miami in may for 3 days. (the albion hotel, south beach), so after the top 10 things we should see and do whilst there. Hopefully the beach will figure high on the list. How daring are guys on So Be? Is it shorts, trunks or speedos? Im hoping for plenty of the latter.

Moving back to New York, huh. Get ready to get taxed to death.

Did you actually reach out to anyone here in SOBE, or did you expect us to just know you were here?

I thought changing my location was sufficient but apparently not and there was never a meetup while I was down here. As for being taxed to death, the compensation in New York in my case far, far makes up for it.

    GQjock saidBut try Score ....
Fuck Score. They charge a cover for mediocre entertainment.
Twist is MUCH better, funner, and it's mantra is "never a cover; always a groove." icon_cool.gif

You and Southbeach are right in that I should've reached out, I live far off the beaten path in Pinecrest. When a New York friend visited he wanted me to join him on the gay beach in Sobe and after I arrived he asked how it felt to be in the top 2% of guys there (it was a weekday) and vacationing guys glommed onto us while my friend showed me and them the sights (Score and Twist, but around 6:00pm, and my problem was I left at 10:00pm to grab some shuteye!). Pretty much the only validation I get is while I'm out and about, never much on internet forums! But I'm rarely out and about.

BTW, I just bought a plane ticket to SoFla last night. It's time to take a vacay away from the cold-ass mornings of AZ. icon_lol.gif

Hey there, I'm 24 and currently live in Miami. there isn't THAT much to do in miami beach besides tan, eat drink and shop haha.

I would definitely recommend checking out Lincoln Road (pedestrian road), as that's also full of gays and a bigger area than Ocean Drive and Palace Bar area. There are a ton or bars and restaurants on Lincoln and some decent shopping. As far as gay establishments, MOVA and Score are two cool places to check out on Lincoln Rd. Score is a large dance club with a cover, and MOVA is really trendy lounge with NO cover.

Twist is a 3-5 cab ride from there, and is absolutely huge and there are lots of different rooms in the club, but its a bit seedier, in my opinion (ie; strippers, drugged out people) but some people love it! (No offense to those who do!)

If you're looking to shop, check out collins by 5th avenue, lots of good stores and boutiques there.

As far as beaches go, my favorite area on the beach is south pointe.

You can look up all of these places on a map--they're all basically within reasonable walking distance of each other (but prob not going to want to in July), and are also all a short 5-7 min cab ride of each other.
