Kearian Giertz said he was being spontaneous and honest by responding to the question, “Where do you see yourself in 10 years from now?”

“And, I ended it with, hopefully, 10 years from now gay marriage will be legal in California, and I left it at that,” Giertz said.
With that comment, the Fullerton Union High School student was disqualified from the Mr. Fullerton pageant, an annual contest for senior boys that takes place at the California school’s Plummer Auditorium.

“Everybody started cheering him and then [Vice Principal] Mr. Abell came out and said, ‘Cut him, cut him,’” said student Isaac Fanti. “But he was just speaking his mind.”

There was a large student protest, and the various trogledites have apologized:

What continues to amaze me is that these people think they can get away with this sort of thing, even after case after case after case.... What damp rock have they been living under.

    We're winning.

School administrators have a long and sad history of resorting to bureaucratic knee-jerk actions against students, whether on gay issues or other matters. You do have to wonder if they really don't like kids, and see their role more as a corrections officer than as an educator. It's not surprising that many of these same administrators are blind to peer bullying, since they themselves act largely like bullies, too. icon_razz.gif

I do note the positive response of his fellow students in the audience, and afterwards. icon_biggrin.gif

Agreed. I've met more than a few teachers with power trip and control issues.

Good for the kid, expressing his viewpoint like that. High school can be a difficult place to be open minded.

However, I might have booed him for that soul glo haircut. Someone help that gay!

"Within 24 hours, district officials sent a statement to parents saying no school rules were violated.

In the letter, they admit the matter was not handled appropriately and noted that the vice principal gave a personal apology.

At least it was resolved? The article didn't state whether the kid was reinstated in the pageant. I would hope that he was.

The OP should not over look his very own homophobic past, and the wrongs he also did. Even the gay bashing he turned a blind eye to while in the Arm; just because he dumped the ex wives (or they he) and now taken a boyfriend and started to live the gay lifestyle instead of his straight one, does not erase his dark past; so the moral to this story is: people who live in glass houses should not throw stones. Thus he is no better than those in this article, as he spent most of his life looking down on us, as being dirty and beneath him, and just because he has now taken a boyfriend and wants too marry again and still be seen as the victom does not make him any better than those he is trying to judge in this article.

So have I and thats why the education department needs to get rid of many of their liberal off centre left teachers, and hire some conservative ones to get a better balance. This is not just an issue is Australia but America too.

The trouble I've had getting an education as an adult, and having to deal with these left wing teachers and their views. If you don't see things their way; OMG you pay, and I have, as in their mind they are always right, and anything conservative is wrong. I've even had straight left wing teacher try to dictate gay issues to me; A Bona Fide Homosexualicon_rolleyes.gif
