    Hi Guys!

Have anyone of you experimented with fasting before? What was your experience? How did you fast?

Do you mean like proper religious fasting of more than 24 hours straight? Never tried that.

Tried out Eat Stop Eat (which is basically warrior diet twice a week) but didn't enjoy it and caught myself starting to eat absent mindedly anyway. Liked reading Martin Berkhan's website because it did get rid of my guilt about not eating breakfast. 16+ hours of fasting daily gave me gas so now I just do 12-14 hours. I don't even think of it as fasting. I just give my body a rest from eating - and it's what I do intuitively anyway. Children do it every single day so I'm not scared that I will crumble into dust if I'm not eating constantly (kids eat dinner 6-7ish and have breakfast 7-8ish).
Of course juiced up bodybuilders with 300 lbs of muscle to maintain have to eat constantly because there's a limit to how much they can cram through their system at a time.

Right now I'm trying out calorie and macronutrient cycling as described by Andy Morgen on http://rippedbody.jp. Protein always high, carbs high on workout days, fat high on rest days. Over maintenance calories on workout days and under maintenance on rest days.

Yeah, When i was during my teen years (13-15) I cut out junk food and stuff like that for a couple years but quit the habit and decided to go on a moderation diet which was when i would eat the food that i wanted but healthier as well.

I did all kinds of fasting.. theres total fast, there is just vegetarian fast, there is semi-vergetarian, when you eat eggs and fish.. or there is fasting when you include abstaining from things such as smoking etc.. Its excellent mental training.. to gain more self-control and self-awareness

Yes totally to the mental self-control and self awareness! You really do learn a lot about yourself and cravings and understanding them.

I'm currently following www.leangains.com Intermittent fasting. I actually am really listening to my body and it's very eye opening!

Yeah I'm doing the whole IF thing. 12-8pm eating window. Really easy actually since I never eat breakfast anyway. Only struggle is trying to cram in all those calories in a limited time but hey, that's why it works !

Does doing Ramadan when I was younger also count ? icon_lol.gif

God I don't miss having to get up at stupid o'clock to eat/pray. That was the only difficult part. A lot of the time though I just used to cheat and sleep right through. Oh and the bastard kids at school offering me food/chewing gum !! icon_lol.gif

I fast on the last weekend of every month. It has NOTHING to do with the ridiculous notion of religion or any of that bullshit. (Nor because I'm a vegetarian.) It actually started when someone told me I couldn't do it about 10 yrs ago.
From Friday night until Monday morning on the last weekend of the month the only thing I consume is a glass of water on Sat & Sun. By Monday I'm a bit hungry, (not as bad as you would think), but my body and mind just feel clear. The first couple of times you do it, the hunger is nearly intolerable. But it is a great self discipline exercise!
My G.P. doesn't like me doing it, but so far I have never felt anything but good from it, and he has not found anything bad medically from it.

I think it's one of those things that really depend on your goals. If you're not careful with a fast, you will send your body into starvation mode and basically shut down your metabolism.

If you have any sort of blood sugar issue, this can be dangerous as well.

Did you have a moonlighting period as a Muslim or did you just try it out to have the experience ?

I have Muslim family.. I learned pretty much how to pray, how to do the woodoo, the whole shebang.. I don't particularly believe in any one religion though, it was just cause my family does it

Ahh ok. Pretty much the same thing here but I was raised Muslim so I was expected to do Ramadan. Glad of the experience discipline wise but not a believer in any organized religion now.

I was pretty much raised non-theist.... there's very devout Muslims, Christians and Hindus in my family (and I mean so devout, they go to india and Saudi-Arabia like, every few years).... obviously I still celebrate things like Christmas and Easter and stuff.. thats what you do.. but my family never ever took me to church.. they said stuff like "the worst people hide themselves in the church" and they never talked of religion at home... trimming a christmas tree is the most religious thing we ever did growing up... so pretty much, I'm all secular.... just out of my own interest, I went to temple, to mosque, to synqgogue and church,.. so like you say, I did it out of interest, not particularly because i had a moonlighting period in any of these things... On the whole, I learned a lot of very great things in all of them, and I wouldnt give up the experience though, I still go to religious celebrations regularly, I still perform some of the ceremonies and prayers at home, as I find they kind of help to keep me balanced out and help me get peace of mind.. and I because I found fasting to be a good way to learn mental control and clarity, I still practice it too.. but I don't do any of these things according to religious prescriptions.. I see them as more symbolical and about focusing your intention than about sticking to one or the other religious rules

Fisting can be quite fun when you have a bottom tied down who really gets into it.

    EDIT:

Oh wait, totally misread the thread title. icon_twisted.gif
