Scientists developing electromagnetic radiation guns

Russia is developing weapons that can bend minds and put people in a zombie-like state, the Daily Mail reported last Saturday.

Prime Minister and President-elect Vladimir Putin has confirmed that his country’s scientists are working on guns that emit electromagnetic radiation (EMR). He claims that the new weapons will be “more acceptable in terms of political and military ideology” than nuclear weapons.

A high dosage of EMR is known to be harmful to biological systems. When exposed to humans, it can damage internal organs, induce stress and even effect behavior.

The futuristic weapons - which attack their victims' central nervous system - are being developed by scientists and could be used against Russia's enemies and even its own dissidents by the end of the decade.

Anatoly Tsyganok of the Military Forecasting Center in Moscow said such a weapon is “highly serious.” He said, “When it was used for dispersing a crowd and it was focused on a man, his body temperature went up immediately as if he was thrown into a hot frying pan."

Mr Putin has described the guns, which use electromagnetic radiation like that found in microwave ovens, as entirely new instruments for achieving political and strategic goals.

Plans to introduce the super-weapons were announced by Russian defense minister Anatoly Serdyukov.

While the technology has been around for some time, Mr Tsyganok said the guns were recently tested for crowd control purposes.

"Still, we know very little about this weapon and even special forces guys can hardly cope with it,'' he said.

Research into electromagnetic weapons has been carried out in the US and Russia since the '50s but it appears Putin has stolen a march on the US.

Precise details have not been revealed but previous research has shown that low-frequency waves or beams can affect brain cells, alter psychological states and make it possible to transmit suggestions and commands directly into someone's thoughts.

Mr Putin said the technology is comparable in effect to nuclear weapons but “more acceptable in terms of political and military ideology''.

Mr Serdyukov said the weaponry based on new physics principles - direct-energy weapons, geophysical weapons, wave-energy weapons, genetic weapons and psychotronic weapons - were part of the state arms procurement program for 2011-2020.

Some are raising concerns that this new weapon that can attack central nervous system might be used against Russia’s own people.

According to the British paper, 43-year-old Sergei Serykh said he was attacked with the weapon, claiming it was “many times more powerful than in the Matrix films.”

He and his family were reported to have committed suicide while seeking asylum in the United Kingdom in 2010, but his relatives feared there was foul play involved. Local media reported that Serykh had mental problems.

There had been another suspicious death concerning the futuristic weapon. Two years ago, a former major in the a Russian intelligence agency died, allegedly after making claims about such a weapons program to the British Secret Intelligence Service MI6.

I can't believe someone is quoting the Daily Mail without a hint of sarcasm. Was this story stuffed between the "Ten Biggest Boobies" and the "Your Dog Wants To Kill You" stories?

As for the content, of course Russia and all major military powers have been playing with this stuff for 60 years now. Any Google search would return thousands of results. Something Daily Mail reporters never feel the need to do.

"...stolen a march on the US" Yeah, sure he has.

Any other breathless "scoops" for us?

Ten biggest boobies sounds more like The Star.
The Daily Mail would be more "Brussels plans to (insert own ludicrous story)"icon_smile.gif

What type of zombies are we talking here?
Classic shambling zombies, or fast modern zombies?
