Kwokpot saidMy partner & I will be in Ft Lauderdale on Friday, 4/13 for acruise that leaves on Sat. I know we will miss Miami Pride on Sunday, but any recommends on bars and/or clubs to go to Friday night? We're not late partiers, so what's good to go to for dancing around 11-12?
Where are you staying? In Fort Lauderdale near the beach? Wilton Manors is about 5 miles from there, depending where you stay. A separate city, BTW, not a part of FtL, but borders it to the north
The Manor can be OK Friday night. There's also Boom, but the crowd and dancing is a bit younger. Scandals Saloon favors a western theme, they may have some dancing Friday.
Parking is really difficult Friday night, a mix of meters, valet, and free lots. If you find a spot you may want to walk between places, which are mostly pretty close together, except for Scandals, the Boardwalk (strip joint) and the Ramrod (leather & bears). Or just spring for a cab.
We may hit the Alibi for an hour or so ourselves this week (no dancing there), if some of our friends say they'll be there for drinks around 8, our Friday routine. Then we may go out for dinner together with them or separately, always unplanned, depending on everyone's mood and who shows up.
BTW, if you map it you'll find that many Florida roads have multiple names simultaneously, that are changed frequently, and more quickly than the online or printed maps can always keep up. And the street signs can also be confusing, alternating between the various names as you drive along.
So that Wilton Drive is also NE 4th Ave on some maps, as well as County 811, and is in fact 4th as it passes through Fort Lauderdale, to next curve into NE 3rd Ave closer to downtown. It also becomes Flying L Drive for the several blocks it passes a FtL high school with that motto. See what I mean?
Here's a helpful online guide to the gay scene, and once you arrive you'll find gay magazines and newspapers with local info, too. Happy trip!http://www.jumponmarkslist.com/
