This will be my second race and looking for any and all advice i can get... to help train, and be ready for my run. Is any one else on realjock running? I'll be running with Lance Armstrong in Austin! Hopefully i can keep my motivation and excitment up!!

Believe that you can finish it!!

10K is an awesome distance! Work in a few long runs to your training, around 4-5.5 miles ending in the 2 weeks prior to the race, any more than that and you risk overtraining yourself so that your muscles will still be tired on race day. Race your pace, not the pace of the other runners around you, otherwise you risk burning up all of that great energy you've saved in the first few miles.

Most importantly, have fun and live in the fact that you're a part of a HUGE community, one that has never been as apparent as on this day.

Good luck and great times to you!!!
:-)

I'm thinking of doing the race in London. Anyone else doing it in my neck of the woods?

First congrats on your first 5K. Yes, there are lots of runners here on RealJock. Supposedly there is a Austin chapter of the Frontrunners (the Intl gay running group):

http://www.frontrunners.org/clubs/index.php?club=Austin

"Fun runs at Butler Shores on Town Lake, opposite Zachary Scott Theater. Sundays at 8:00 AM."

Might be something you can check out if it fits into your schedule.

Best of luck on the Nike Human Race!

OK, I just found out about this today and am seriously considering a trip out to Austin to participate... that is, if I can find someone to stay with (already have a family reunion planned, so the travel budget is kinda tight).

A friend of mine has relatives in Vancouver, so I may end up running in a much cooler locale, haha!

So, (bump, bump) is anyone else participating in this huge event?

Oh, and Micklion, which charity will you be running for? I actually found out about the race through the UN refugee agency, so I'll probably try to raise funds for them... assuming I find a place to stay in a race city.

Congratulations on running your first 5K. Just to repeat advice given to you earlier by others, taking water is important and getting in some longer training runs is imperative. Run your own race and don't be overly concerned with the pace set by other runners. Getting yourself sucked into a fast pace at the start can lead to disaster. If you are feeling strong at the 5 mile mark, then you can "kick" it in for a great finish. Good luck!!
