How long should it take to get my breathing under control?

    Hi runners!

I'm getting back into running, as it's (field) hockey season. My running fitness isn't fantastic, I'll admit, but I seem to take quite a while to get my breathing and heart rate under control when I start off.

So how long should it take? I'm finding around the 3km mark that I'm getting into a rhythm, and that seems a little long to me.

Thanks in advance for the advice/contributions.

I think everyone is different. However, it generally takes me about 10 min until I'm in the groove. I take the first mile nice and slow and then bump it up.

Sweet. I think I'll start doing a run 0.25km-walk 0.25km split for the first few kms and work up from there. Not being a full-time runner, I find I lose the conditioning real quick. Hopefully with hockey having started up, that'll change icon_smile.gif
