A former management analyst at the Library of Congress is claiming he was fired after he "liked" a Facebook page for same-sex parents, an act he says led to his boss discovering he is gay.

[The former analyst] said he started to receive emails from [his boss] that contained ‘religiously motivated harassment and discrimination.’ [The boss] then called him into a meeting for the purposes of ‘educating him on hell and that it awaited him for being a homosexual.’

Totally. That's just a jackass move on the boss's part unless the employee was REALLY bad and it was a coincidence.

Completely inappropriate. I bet we will see him get reinstated, and the boss fired.

Was this on the clock? Did the therapist mandate that much time off? Were leave taking rules observed?

Situations often come up where a news story asks, in effect, for a judgment that may not be called for when we have the whole story. The Trayvon Martin case is another example.

No, I don't think that someone should be fired for having an opinion such as this worker's and it does sound like the boss is a nut case, but I don't feel that the story is presented completely. Just the fact that the lawyer will not discuss it says that much to me.

That makes no sense. When does an employee's poor quality of work justify a boss being anti-gay towards the employee? There is no "unless" as far as the homophobia is concerned.

The Library is a very gay place, as I can testify after working there for 31 years. There are all sorts of regs prohibiting discrimination, but a supervisor can always find a way to get rid of someone for whatever, including being gay. The Library lost virtually EVERY employment lawsuit it engaged in while I worked there. This fellow has an excellent chance.

I said it was a pure coincidence. As in bad timing. -.- Yeah it makes no sense, but don't get your panties in a bunch because of a run-on sentence. If it really was homophobia, then that was a complete dick move. If it was a coincidence, then it was poor performance that got him sacked.

I hate reading stuff like that, it just freaks me out that adults would do something like that to you just for your sexual orientation that you have no choice over. Some people are just idiots...
