If this story had appeared a couple of weeks ago, I would have said it was an April fools joke.

It is just as well that most people in Britain have zero interest in what Christianity or any other religion has to say, about anything.

They would not say this because it is not true.

It makes no sense to fight bigotry by becoming a bigot.

    Ok then lets change it..

"the christian group who ran the ads just hate everyone as usual!"

    Better?

    Thats just truth, not bigotry!

    Coolio.

So, let's pass the hat around for our own ads:

"Christianity can be cured! (with a tasty dick stuffed up your puritanical ass)"

    Checks jar for accumulated change...

Hell, I'd love to see an advert like that on transit. icon_twisted.gif

One does not do so well to lower themselves to the standards born by one's enemies.

Namely, you may well be defeated in resorting to bigotry to combat the bigotry of others: not all who believe in god/a higher power are so bigoted as those who took out those bus adverts.

I think Islam seems to have quite a few things to say that no small number of Britons and foreigners resident in Britain are willing to give large interest in hearing.

But as for mainline Anglican Christianity (as well as Catholicism and evangelical Christianity), I'd say you're right on - their messages tend to fall squarely on mostly deaf ears.

Wow, that was a mature response. How old are you? It's called "hypocrisy" when you admonish boorish behavior and then engage in it yourself.

I call them Leviticans to differentiate them from Christians. Since the latter follows the word and teachings of Jesus Christ, and the former appears to be fixated on a single verse from the Old Testament as the basis of their faith.

I think that might be going a little too far...

The mayor of London has blocked the ads. Now the Christianist group responsible will probably whine about persecution - which may have been their goal in the first place.

    No, they plan to sue

Boris shouldn't have banned the ads as offensive, he should have claimed they are selling something that doesn't work (false advertising).

A great response would be to recruit gay-friendly churches to get ad space. Imagine a gay couple holding hands with the quotation. "My church accepts me as I am." BOOM. Served.

I bet this one wil get laughed out of the UK courts.

When Christians make noise about things in the UK, they get put back in their place.

When Islamists make noise about things though, the UK courts are quick to the point of stumbling over themselves to accommodate the whackier requests in the name of "religious diversity", "cultural sensitivity", and "tolerance".

Or it could be just out of fear of them going all kinds of Ke$ha on the rest of the non-god-fearing population. icon_wink.gif

How is that any different than a right wing asshole believing that lesbianism can be cured with rape?

Ohh, but let me guess, you were just joking. And it is OK for you to joke that way about "them" but not OK for them to talk that way about "us."

Given that 'Asian' and 'Asian British' people make up about 6% of the entire UK population, I would suggest the Islamic population of the UK (estimated at 2.7% at the last census) is a very small minority . Even among this small minority, not all will be devout Muslims.

Incorrect, 1 Romans:26-27 from the new testament also says this. The sooner you find the bible lacks logic in the most basic things like getting the number of pi wrong or specifically stating the earth is stationary and the sun moves and its beliefs include talking snakes and shrubbery etc etc the sooner you will find out we are dealing with humanity's lesser evolved.

No, they're preaching to people closeted gays who were raised in the church and already believe they're going to hell for the way they were born. All this does is perpetuate their false belief, and GREATLY increase the risk of suicide.

In other words, christians are inadvertently murderers in my book.
