My step dad suffers from it. Uric acid crystals form and congregate in the most inconvenient spots on the body. From research it seems as though %100 Cherry Juice is great at treating gout.

Ugh!! Sometimes you just forget that you can't eat certain stuff. Then, you just wake up one morning not being able to walk! icon_confused.gif

    Recommended NSAID=Indomethacin
Ibuprofen or any other NSAID could work too.
Avoid aspirin because it competes with uric acid for secretion in the kidneys.

Colchicine has generally been replaced by NSAIDs as treatment for acute gout due to concerns with diarrhea and stomach upset.

Allopurinol, Probenicid and other such drugs are for chronic gout (aka when you have painless joint deformation due to deposition of urate crystals for long enough that your body wimply walls them off). If you have chronic gout and are thinking about using any of these treatments you would be wise to take an NSAID with them because they can lead to acute gout attacks due to the bodies attempts to breakdown the deposits causing irritation.

    Hope that helps...

I take that. Those little bastard pills cost $2 a pill without health insurance! icon_evil.gif
I use Ibuprofen when I can't get Indomethacin on hand.
I just want it to go away so that I can eat beef forever! icon_biggrin.gif
But I know that's not gonna happen! icon_neutral.gif

Gout is a buildup of Uric acid in the joints.

There are 2 issues. Genetics and Intake of purines.

The kidneys excrete uric acid in the urine.

In the setting of water conservation ( dehydration) the kidneys reabsorb uric acid to maintain blood pressure.

So hydrate, Nsaids for pain (Ibuprofen/Naproxen) and see your doctor.

The cherry juice and vinegar are just bunk . Gout from a Nephrologist / Cardiologist point of view usually always is a sign of a bigger metabolic issue. (this is a complicated issue but gout isnt just a minor issue, it usually comes along with more serious problems such as cardiovascular disease, obesity and diabetes)

A good natural remedy is bee propolis, specially the red type. My father swears by it.
