SO CUTE! There may be hope for us gays yet, despite the standard US election year slanders against us from "the other side"

After my weekly golf lesson Friday last week, my instructor asked me and my partner, who came to pick me up, if we would help his adult gay son with some networking here in Wilton Manors, Florida. The son lives north of here, in a Republican gay wasteland, and might consider relocating with his BF. Or at least make some gay community connections within driving distance.

I didn't even know my instructor had a gay son, and to hear him talk so freely about his son's boyfriend was kinda a surprise. He already knew I'm gay, not because I announced it, but because I was referred to him by another couple he knows is gay (one of them an RJ member, as it happens). And because I speak openly about my partner, who sometimes drives me to my golf lessons.

And he was so cute, so bashfully awkward in a way, trying to ask me if I would help his son. All I could think was: this is the world we want, where straights & gays live together in harmony. Though it really did kinda catch me off-balance, the last thing I expected from him, following a lesson.

But of course we said yes, and we're meeting the son and his BF tonight. I've already sent him all kinds of community links, that may prompt some questions, because I don't know what he might want of us.

Well, anyway, I was so moved that a straight guy asked me for help for his gay son. Are we getting closer to where we want to be in our US society? I dunno, I'm no statistician, but it sure gave me a warm & fuzzy feeling. icon_biggrin.gif

That's why the anti-gay attacks from the usual suspects are more vicious than ever. They know we are winning and there's nothing they can do about it. The more we come out the more people we win.

Cute story, have a great time this evening.

Thanks! We're getting ready to leave in about 20 minutes. Too bad many of the anti-gay attacks originate right here on RJ. Often in the form of baseless ad hominem assaults on me. And from those same usual suspects. icon_sad.gif

That's so awesome! What a cool thing you guys are doing for this guy. I'm trying to visit Ft. Lauderale this summer just to be connected to other gay people as well! Kudos to you guys!

Allen West is his own wasteland, his district south of us. (This past week he claimed 80 Democrats in Congress are members of the Communist Party, but hasn't been able to provide any proof. The Congress hasn't heard anything so lunatic since Joe McCarthy in the 1950s, but then West is a Teabagger, so that explains a lot)

No, they're up in Republican Palm Beach County. They told us tonight they have no gay life up there, which isn't surprising. It's the same place where a Republican lawyer insulted me for being gay over dinner at a private party a couple of years ago.

But we had a nice time tonight, and plan to see them again in another week, to show them more of our "gay ghetto" as my detractors here call it. Compared to the Republican wasteland where they live now, this is gay Heaven, where gays can be out, PDAs allowed, no anti-gay sentiments expressed. No wonder the Conservaposse hates this place - it's totally gay friendly.

So you are coming? Great! Well as I offered in a different thread, let us know if you need a ride or a place to stay. But give us at least a few days warning, this office will take days to straighten up and become our guest bedroom.

This is exactly what I think every time I read about increasingly shrill and hateful attacks on gay Americans by anti-gay bigots. They are on the losing side of a revolution and their time in history is coming to an end.

There will always be moments of awesomeness like this scenario, but based on my experience thus far, NO we have not come to that place yet and I believe it will be some time before we actually get to that place.

Of course, my dear. You're my oldest friend on this site.

We've got miles to go yet. But I do like to call out the mile markers, as we get closer to our destination. And describe how we managed to get around US Republican roadblocks to our goal.

It does make me wonder, why some guys here are part of our problem, and not part of the solution. Think they're reading off a different sheet of homophobic music than the rest of us gays? That possibility does occur to me.
