What will it take?
What if we required restaurants to make at least 5% of their menu with healthy items that have proper proportions? So that people who are looking for healthy options can do so. I have seen some restaurants that have nothing healthy. I realize that the Republicans would fight this tooth and nail. But I'm really not sure what it will take to get people to change their eating habits and being so sedentary.
We all see those obese people and it just looks so uncomfortable and we hear about all of the health problems they have, such as circulation issues, because of it. I think that there are often times psychological reasons behind it: such as depression, low self esteem, etc.
I have heard that cuts in education have been so deep that at some schools, they have eliminated P.E.

in my own opinion, i believe the government has been running population control through our processed foods. I try to eat as much produce, and get my meats from meet markets. I do buy Jenny - O ground turkey, wheat thins, peanut butter, preserves and bread - but everything else I try to get fresh and local. Soon I will be strong enough to get rid of those things as well. I don't trust the government at all anymore, it's too crooked - it's gotten out of hand.

by this I mean the chemicals they are using, and the new-found "Pig Slim", cancer rates, and heart disease rates, and diabetes rates are on the rise and i firmly believe (not matter what the arrows are pointing to) that it has a lot to do with what we are eating and the quality of the food we are eating.

PE is being ut at some schools which is disgusting to me. It's not the course work that is bringing down test score, it's the lousy, new teachers that are being hired in - they don't care about the kids enough. Parents don't help, in many cases but, if I am a teacher my job is to educate my students to the very best of my ability in order to give them a chance at a better life. The new people being hired in now only care about themselves and their pay check.

^ Meat lobby groups are very powerful!
To remove a lot of the corruption in our government, we must stop allowing privately funded campaigns. Limited publicly funded campaigns is the best way to go and may produce more fair results, as well as get rid of the politicians need to spend 2/3rds of their time fundraising.

As far as I see it, forcing healthy food upon the American population will not help the problem. Speaking as a former fatty myself, no amount of encouragement, fat jokes, or even "I love you and I'm concerned about your health" conversations got me to get off my ass and do something about it.
Someone needs to make that conscious decision for themselves. Constantly reminding fat people about how fat they are only pushes them further away from doing something about it.
