What a tragedy. I'm crying. There are so many of them. icon_cry.gif

How do we reach out to these kids?

Another triumph for our Right Wing haters here, who support the politicians and religious leaders who cause these things. Who vote for them, who champion the gay hatred on the Right. There are indeed consequences of their actions and rhetoric, and here is yet another example. Have you guys no shame or sense of guilt & responsibility?

When are you gonna condemn political & religious leaders who say it's OK to hate gay children?

This is what happens when religion is allowed to spread its hate.

That's true. However, religion is at the core of most closetedness. If religion had never made homosexuality taboo, it would have never become taboo.

Way to point the finger, man.

Can you not ever turn a thread - especially one as tragic as about a bullied kid into a diatribe against "the right"...?

And for the record, the only reason I will vote for Obama is because the current crop of GOP candidates (except for the Hon. Dr. Ron Paul) are wastes of sperm who have pandered to the hateful elements of social conservatism.

But these NOM-sucking wretches are not the heart and soul of conservatism.

    Perhaps you are right.

With the possible exception of Dr. Paul, none of today's candidates carry the legacy of conservatism in a manner worthy of the late Senator Goldwater.

You keep telling yourself that. The heart and soul of conservatism is what, exactly?

We've fallen for the "Tea (Baggers) are Republicans, Democrats and Independents who care only about fiscal responsiblity, not social issues" (that worked well for your party, didn't it?), and we've fallen for "Social issues don't define the Republican Party," yet time after time, the right eradicates pro-choice rights of women, LGBT protecton laws ... I could go on, but I can't be bothered.

If you support the Republican Party, you deserve every bit of hate they have for you.

No, we are not all at fault. We should not have to march down the street demanding that we not be harassed or attacked by religious folks or anyone else. The blame is totally on such people for their fucking bigotry. They own it all!
And that bigotry is fueled by religion.

    good points!!!!

I bet when that kid (and the astonishing numbers of others just like him) TOOK HIS OWN FUCKING LIFE because he was tortured relentlessly -- he was thinking about the lofty ideals of Goldwater and Conservatism.

I am sure he had ENOUGH of the tax situation.

Just couldn't take the political mud-slinging anymore.

    Was just OVER runaway spending.

Yeah - THAT must have been the problem.

Back to the OP. The fact that CNN calls him a LGBT teen is idiotic. Pick one or two at best. He can't be a lesbian, so lets drop that. Call him gay (or whatever he identified as) and stop diluting the story.

It would be like referring to a hate based crime recipient as a African American/Jewish/Muslim/Asian/Hispanic victim.

The media clusters together these groups as if they were a cohesive community. Similar victimization of diverse groups doesn't tie them together as a single group.

THAT is your biggest issue with this story?!?!??!?!!?

Don't worry - no one mistook him for a Lesbian.

Thanks for taking time to make THAT distinction though. Really softens the blow of his suicide.

Could you please cite some examples of any political leaders and/or religious leaders who have said "It is OK to hate gay children"...name one please? Oh, and after that, could you cite a single member here at RJ who has indicated in ANY way that they support that person? 1sm137waiting.gif

I suspect this is yet another one of your delusional rants or outright lies. They have become common-place in your posts.

Oh C'mon CJAZ - you know what he means. There are certain political mindsets that prefer to look the other way in regards to LGBT rights and Protections. They will often pander to the religious right for politcal and/or financial support and will silently go along witht he status quo that Gay=sin therefore whatever happens is the fault of the victim.

We all know that Arty_D is well into his 10th Sloe Gin Fizz before cocktail hour actually begins but that does not take away the validity of the point. At least to some extent.

    An unnecessary distraction, I'll confess.

But if more so-called conservatives who profess by Sen. Goldwater's principles were indeed following them, folks like Santorum and Romney would be lucky to be elected dog catcher.

What this country is in sore need of is a major political enema to clean all of the shitty thinking that marginalizes and villainizes one group in the name of getting votes.

And perhaps it is the parents of the bullies who should have the sword of justice brought upon their necks for failing to teach their children respect for others not like them.

I keep coming back to that kid's picture and crying, because of what Right Wingers here and elsewhere contributed to end his life. I wish we could shame them with their guilt, but yah know, they're proud and happy this beautiful & promising kid is dead, because he's gay. I'm really upset about this. icon_cry.gif

I respectfully disagree. What Arty did is use yet another tragedy to take a swipe at members here who simply don't deserve it. His exact words were "Another triumph for our Right Wing haters here". Who here are "Right Wing Haters" and why on earth would ANYONE here look at the horrible suicide of an innocent young person as "a triumph"? I find the insinuation insulting, highly unfair, and totally irrational and out of line, and I for one am not going to let it just slide just because Arty is likely on his 10th Sloe Gin Fizz. This is a tragedy, and there is not s single person here who would see it any other way.

    FUCK

Another soul tortured to the point of suicide. What is wrong with our society? There's no specific finger to be pointed. Bullying at that age is fueled by hate, power, and a desire for popularity, not politics. Most importantly, it's fueled by the hatred taught by parents of any religion, of any political affiliation.

    JUST FUCK.

There are literally hundreds of thousand of links to choose from. It's like shooting fish in a barrel.

ArtDeco dubbed this another triumph for right wing haters, and he is on the money ... b/c you Log Cabin types hate yourselves. I used to think that was okay as long as your kind stayed the hell away from me, but my opinion had to change. Why? When you vote for a Republican, you vote against the LGBT community. CuriousJock, your support of the Republican Party is what ends up getting so many LGBT killed in this country and abroad (e.g., Uganda's original Kill the Gays Bill).

    Yeah, I went there.

Kansas House Republicans pass bill that OKs anti-gay discrimination:

South Carolina Republicans mock rights of trans people, Constitution and judicial system

    NOM wants Romney!
    http://blog.seattlepi.com/seattlepolitics/2012/04/12/anti-gay-marriage-group-we-want-romney/#2453-1

    - Ex-Sen. Rick Santorum came to the fore as critique of 2003 Supreme Court ruling that tossed out Texas’ anti-sodomy statute, and continues to equate gay marriage with polygamy and bigamy as 2012 presidential candidate. On Monday he railed against gay adoption as “robbing children of something they need, they deserve, they have a right to.”

    – U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin “Nino” Scalia warned darkly that the Supremes were enacting the “homosexual agenda” in the Texas ruling, and argues that the Constitution cannot be used to justify rights for sexual minorities.

I should have been more clear. I was going to add to it but I figured that people would now it was an important point even if not the most significant, as it was obviously not as important as the loss of a young innocent life. The video was too sad for me to watch the whole thing.

I have great sympathy for the families and friends who have suffered such losses as I am among them in suffering a loss like this and also, in fact, might have been among the casualties were it not for the luck of having some good people in my life almost 4 decades ago.
