I just got my tax refund and want to take a trip this summer (perferred internationally). Are there any fun places that $1100 would take care of flight and a good portion of lodging?

That should be just enough to cover costs for an adventure-packed journey to the Land of Imagination!!!!

You're in Ohio, so you could drive to Canada. An international road trip!

Canada or Mexico might be your only viable options. Still would be "international"

You could try a package to Cancun It might cost a little bit more, or a lot more, but you'll probably be able to get an all inclusive resort package, which includes flight as well to Cancun, Mexico.

Unfortunately traveling isn't as cheap as it used to be. It was only a few years ago that I flew round trip to Peru for $425.

For $1100 you won't have many options if you need that to cover food and lodging also. Keep an eye on flights to Europe. There are some places you can still get a round trip to for $600-700. Other than that I'd be looking at Mexico or the Caribbean.

No, I'm not looking for the $1100 tocover food, incidentals ect. Just the fllight, and hopefully some of that money can be used on lodging.

I heard Mexico is pretty cheap. Go to real Mexico. Not fake Cancun and Cozumel

For that price, I would scan the travel ads in the local paper or online and look for a package deal, and keep an open mind. Flights are pricer than they used to be so you'll get a better bang for the buck if you find something that's packaged together and heavily discounted. Travelzoo is one good place to look. I think that groupon and livingsocial have also expanded to travel packages. Just make sure to compare the total package cost with the cost of the individual components to make sure you're getttng a good deal,

    Happy travels!

I flew Chicago - Frankfurt one summer for $325 round trip with Air India. Deals are out there if you look. Are you willing to crash in a hostel versus a hotel?

Try taking a flight with Aer Lingus to Ireland. They always have deals. Lots of hostels in Dublin and it's a great, great city.

I've also flown to Brazil for $650 round trip with Aero Mexico. Check out that airline for flights to South America. Costa Rica would be a good, cheaper trip.

I misunderstood. That definitely gives you better options. You can often find round trip air to much of Europe for under $1000, and if you don't mind staying in hostels, lodging can run as little as €10-12 a night.

Remember summer is going to be more expensive. You can usually save a couple hundred dollars off airfare if you travel just off season, September is pretty ideal. It's still warm in most places (northern hemisphere anyway) and seasonal destinations are still open to tourists.

Also, remember if you fly during the week instead of on weekends, it can usually save you a bit.

Dunno... seems more reasonable to use that for a short domestic trip.

I did once vacation on $1100 to the virgin islands, but that was 20 years ago. But I used FF miles for the airfare, and I believe that didn't include some scuba charters that I pre-paid. I think I got home with about $4 in my pocket.

Central America ... Costa Rica is fairly inexpensive to get to in the summer, and it's a small country, so the mountainous cloud forest is not terribly far from the Pacific beaches.

Bear in mind it will rain at least part of every day there, but probably not enough to be a washout (heart of rainy season there is in the fall).

Transportation is another issue you'll need to research in a country such as this.

Edit to add this Kayak.com search from CVG to San Jose.
