Are people forgetting how to DRIVE?

Lately I've had cases where at two-way stops the person going straight just sits there and waits for me to make my left turn. Hello. The person going straight has the right of way. At four-way stops I've had people who have the right of way flag me to go so they can finish their text message. Is this happening to you?

Maybe it's defensive, yielding the right of way just because of the crazies on the road who'd try to turn in front of them regardless. Are you putting out some sort of vibe?

Yes. I attribute it to the decline in school funding, which has made Driver Education in US high schools virtually nonexistent.

Decades ago we had to take classroom instruction, and have tests, that covered these very issues you mention. And then go out into traffic with dual-control cars, our driving instructor next to us.

You can't really learn this stuff studying a State driver's manual on your own, cramming to pass a written driver's test one time. And then passing a driving demonstration that is entirely contrived, nothing real-world about it. So that we've got several generations of drivers out on US roads who really don't know what the fuck they're doing.

My vibe is a kind waving of the hand when they sit there forever not knowing that it is their turn. Then they look at me like they completely don't understand how to drive.

Yes, but I only experience this when I return to my hometown by baby boomers driving 2011 Suburbans and Lexuses.

I'm constantly amazed at what bad drivers people who buy Priuses (Prii?) are. Is it because the engine doesn't make noise so they forget they're driving?

Not just a US thing the standards here have dropped significantly over the past few years

I've had drivers just stop at green lights, and wait till the light turns red.. Just so that they can text.

Also, no one seems to know what YIELD signs mean anymore.
