Coach_Mike saidI have a stranger cook and deliver my food all the time. He's named Papa John and unfortunately he hasn't mastered anything but pizza.

If you tell me that your favorite pizza is the hawaiin bbq chicken w/ pineapple - we are getting married and riding off the in the Papa John's limo...

Pizza Friday is tomorrow. I don't know if I can wait...

Actually I like the Buffalo Chicken or just plain old Italian sausage. But I reallllly like the cinnapie. We can't get married. My sweet tooth would have you back at your old weight in no time.

Actually, it would probably work out better. You could have your buffallo chicken and I could have my bbq chicken and we wouldn't have to share...

But I understand about the wedding, you are kind to let me down easy...

I was mostly just wanting an excuse to ride in the papa john's limo... maybe prom???

You forgot I have five siblings. I can eat my pizza so quickly I'll still have time to eat half of yours.

I also make homemade cinnamon rolls that wouldn't even tempt me - that would be waaaayyy better than the cinnapie... I love to cook for other people, so you just sort of missed out... ;-)

Sorry to derail the thread...

SkinnyBitch... If you think that is the best solution - I would still try to see if there is more than one choice. There are food delivery services - other than an individual that would have meal options you can choose from that would give you more control.

It is an interesting concept - something that might exist in a larger city - I'm not sure how large of a place you live in - so I wish you luck. I know there are people out there that just hate to cook. I like to cook, but HATE doing dishes...

Why do people treat those who can't cook like they rode in on the short bus? That's like saying "You can box. You can wear gloves, can't you?"

Actually you can learn to do either. Unless you are physically unable, which judging from your pics you are not (and that wouldnt matter anyway, I know differently abled people you manage all sorts of things just fine) or do not have a kitchen, you can learnto cook. You can learn to box as well, although less easily from a book.
You just don't want too.

I would love to be rich enough to have a cook or afford a meal service.

You go to a restaurant and have a stranger cook for you, so it's not that much more different. Get references from her, and if it's legit, then go for it.

I checked into having someone prepare my meals for me a couple of years ago. I was expecting to pay a lot for the service, but it was way more expensive than I had prepared myself for.

gibby320 saidThat, in my eyes is a brilliant concept.

While I think it is human nature to be apprehensive of strangers.... i think you might be demonizing this poor lady too quickly.

Why not contact her, say you are really interested, explain your situation... as some discovery questions. More importantly, as if you can contact a couple of her other clients for a referral and even 'visit her kitchen'. You can even frame it as "Not that I do not trust you; I just want to be sure this is something we both want to work together in." Perhaps do your first pick up at her kitchen?

I do not think its out of the realm of possibilities to ask for that information. You are hiring her for a service... asking for references and questions SHOULD be something she expects.

Excellent contribution/excellent suggestions.

I think there are too many questions I would have about this.
Do I have to eat what she makes? What happens if she makes a tuna casserole and I don't like tuna casserole? Does that mean I have to go without eating for a few days? Is she cooking health consciously? I don't think I would trust someone else cooking for me, I might just be a picky eater.

Hiring a personal chef to prepare some meals and deliver them to you is fairly common. I know many people who use these kinds of chefs, and many people who do this kind of work.

You can always work out a selection of meals you enjoy. If you don't like sweet potatoes or radishes, you make that clear and they don't end up part of your dinner.

As other people have suggested, you should make a list of questions and ask them. Anyone who is really making a business out of cooking for others will probably have some kind of food handling permit or safety qualification from a local government. If you feel it's important, you can insist on someone who has this.

And yes, ask for references. You can probably get samples, or at least a really low-cost meal as a trial. And you can usually choose the number of meals a week you want delivered. '

Worth a try.

My mom was telling me I should get food delivered since I hate cooking and the easiest to eat is usually the unhealthiest. But take out is expensive, more than I could justify.

I said I wish there was someone I knew locally who could just double the amounts they cook at home and bring me that portion in tupperware (a few days worth at a time).

I looked on a classified ads site, and there's an ad for a woman offering to cook and deliver meals just like I was talking about. I'd have to ask about pricing, but it's apparently quite a bit less than ordering from a restaurant.

My only concern and the reason I'm asking here is: Is it a smart idea to entrust a stranger to cook & prepare food for you?

There is no inspector coming to her kitchen like there is in restaurants. Will she store things properly? Does she know to wash her hands after handling raw meat? Will her dog lick my food while she's not looking? Will human bodily fluids get secretly added? Does any of that actually matter if it tastes good?

I'd love to do it but am feeling very apprehensive. Whaddyas all tink?

Well you could always ask to see like her documents like food badge and stuff, I'm sure she won't be offended if you want to just check out her kitchen to ensure that your meals are being made in a sanitary place. Next you can ask her other clients or maybe find out from her if she has other clients, find out how long she's been in business, stuff like that.

Just go and talk to her about it because there are people who start home businesses like that as a form of catering.

I looked around.. found Meals on Wheels, and a website for a business. The former is about $7.75 per meal, but they're delivered daily (maybe multiple times per day). The latter is expensive, and is for ALL meals and snacks every day. I just want like 2/3 dinners a week in one delivery.

I emailed them asking for more deets and said it would make the ad more successful if they uploaded a picture of the kitchen. I did this purposefully because I google searched the picture of a plate of food and found that it was taken from some website. She didn't claim that she cooked it, but it raises an eyebrow. If she uploads a picture of a kitchen and I find THAT in google images, as ol' Madge would say "You took my love for granted. Why, oh why? The show is over, say goodbye."

I have a cook, and I have to say that is one of the best things about my living situation here. I think if I had to cook all my own food (I am eating paleo) it would take up a lot of my spare time. It's nice to have time to go to the gym, not do chores on the weekend and still have some time in the weekdays. I am not blessed with a 9-5 job and sometimes hours can be long. It is great to know food is ready and waiting for me.

SkinnyBitch saidIf cooking was a possibility, don't you think I would be doing it myself?

Thanks for the advice, gibby. From the way she wrote, she sounds not old, and savvy. Says she loves cooking, so it's not like she'd be a noob. The neighbourhood she posted her postal code in is a newish subdivision where couples starting families usually dwell. It's not going to be a hoarder house with cat urine everywhere.

My impression is that it's probably a great idea. My problem is that I trust no one, and have a terribly low opinion of humans.

I would like to see the kitchen, I think that would help. Not sure if she has references; I don't know how long this ad has been up.

Would you do it?

Get over it! You have had sex and got blown and given head to strangers and you worried about food?? Think of the cock you had in your mouth and where that has been

a lot of bodybuilders do it when theyre not near their home, they have people in the same field preparing food for them when theyre getting ready to do shows, its expensive, but the option is there.

This is what I plan to do, after culinary and pastry school. In Canada you have to get your home kithen inspected in order to sell food out of home I believe.

Have not had sex, gotten blown nor given head to anyone.

mizu, I think this is much more casual than that, I doubt there would be any licensing.

Almost no one here has said if they would do it themselves. It feels like "Why don't you try it, and if you don't die, I'll go next".

Still no email back. grrrargh.
